Thailand will order Y2K disclosure

Thailand has the right idea about how to deal with the negligent companies who lie about their readiness:

"under a draft decree to go before cabinet, organizations that hush up or lie about their Y2K status will walk unprotected into a minefield of potential lawsuits, a senior official said on Monday."

Thailand

They will offer limited protection for companies that deserve it, if they are willing to fess up and reveal their true status. The ones who want to cover it up to protect their stock value will have to deal with the lawsuits on their own.

This seems like a much better plan than the one that Republicans are trying to pass in our Congress, which basically allows any company to continue to lie and escape liability to the consumer. Clinton has threatened to veto it though, and for our sake, I sure hope he does.

Not a bad start. Perhaps we could improve it by having government officials who lie about Y2K preparedness walk through minefields... We have a bunch to clear in Kosova...
