c-2000 filters

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I just read in the user comments section of the c-2000 review that someone finally obtained a cla-1 lens adapter, and IT DOESN'T WORK FOR FILTERS, only for tele, wide, and marcro extenders. I had planned to get a cla-1 primarily to hold a filter to protect the actual camera lens. The original review described it as a lens/filter adapter, so what gives?

Aha! Good note! - We still have an eval Oly C-2000 here, along with the CLA-1. I just checked and indeed, the lens protrudes a bit beyond the threads on the CLS-1, which would interfer with the glass of a filter. The good/bad news though, is that you'll almost certainly need an adapter ring to step up from the weird 43mm threads on the adapter anyway. The thickness of an adapter ring will provide enough relief for filters to work. 43mm x whatever adapter rings can be tough to find, I bought mine (for my trusty old D-600L) from B&H in New York. While it would make the camera a good bit bulkier, you may want to just leave the CLA-1 and a (for instance) 43-52mm adapter attached to the camera all the time. Then, use a 52mm lens cap, and you'll also avoid the popping-off-lens-cap problem.

Thanks for the note, I'll try to make a note in the review itself before I leave for vacation!
