UMAX Powerlook III question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Does anyone have an Umax Powerlook III? The auto detection transparency holders that come with the transparency adappter do not seem to offer a way to scan 35mm negative strips and do not hold a 645 image snuggly. Any solutions? Suggestio

I had the same problem with the medium format holders (I didn't want to cut out individual frames of film). I made my own holders for both 35mm and 120 film. I just cut the proper size holes out of black 2ply rag board. Its just like mounting a transparency, there is a piece of rag board on the bottom which I tape the film to, and a piece of rag board on the top which is actually hinged with tape so that the center holes match up. The scanner has pretty good depth of field, so focus has not been an issue. You can also use mounted slides, just place them right on the glass. It works for me. I realize this question was posted a long time ago and your problem has probably already been solved, but maybe this will help someone else.

Forgot to mention that you won't beable to use the auto detection feature with this solution... I don't know if that matters, I have never attempted to use it.
