Comet C/1999 H1 (LEE)

Looks like some folks are concerned about the comet discovered on 4/16/99. I live near the Jersey shore, I hope the hurricane season is not made worse by this. Here are some excerpts:

"He's very very concerned about what he calls a big "curve ball" inbound that could wind up having devastating consequences here on Earth, and if certain factors come into play like the location of the other planets and the moon it doesn't even have to come that close in distance. This comet is the "worst" kind in terms of its ability to disrupt, and interact with, the solar capacitor. That is, its "orbit" is so flat (1) that it's more like a once in the lifetime of the object pass rather than "long period" etc. Consequently, having never interacted with the Sun before, Comet Lee brings with it a high potential for discharging the Solar Capacitor, and I would personally add that it may in fact already be responsible for the very weird actions we have been seeing from the sun over the last several months; ie the appearance that something has been "pulling" energetic charges away from the Sun in the opposite direction of Earth producing large CME's/flares that for the most part have had little electromagnetic effect here on Earth. All of this is to say that after one evenings look see Jim thinks that the "raised eyebrows in certain circles" are very justified. . . . And several more things need to be pointed out: There is a strong planetary alignment between Earth, Venus, Moon, Uranus, and the Sun in the August 22, 26 range which is within the window of an ecliptic crossing for Comet Lee, along with what astrologers call a "Grand Square" that is an alignment at ninety degrees to the Earth-Sun line of Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars. And August/September are known months of high Sun activity along with being the peak hurricane season in the Caribbean. And if that weren't enough Earth's orbit position will be smack in the middle of the Sun's tail at that time. All of this has the potential of increasing the electromagnetic reaction between the Solar Capacitor, Comet Lee, the other planets, and Earth. And in case you are not familiar with our atmosphere discharge theory of cyclonic storms, the mention of the hurricane season was simply to say if things charge up over this comet then we could expect a very bad hurricane season indeed; which may turn out to be the least of our concerns."

"I think Earl may be right that the mysterious sun flaring we have been scratching our heads about for the past 6 months just found its source in this comet."

"From what my source said and the way it was stated, the Moon's orbit could be effected dramatically, and then it may be absolutely nothing; all hype for the Martial Law, and the presidents quest for power. From that I gathered the White House is in full knowledge of the threats and is doing nothing at this point."

"Besides the mid 2000 alignments already mentioned what really stands out is Sept. 6 1999. This will be a date when the Earth crosses through the cometary orbital plane and Venus is in exact alignment. Almost spooky how exact it is! The comet's wanderings will be primarily within its current orbital plane and if what seems to be shaping up is true regarding the reduction in orbit of the comet (falling inwards towards the sun and slowing down), and given the circa August solar current sheet (solar tail) location, coupled with high CME potential, as well as the post comet perihelion solar increase in activity that is expected--- This entire time frame of August to September, 1999 could be a very serious cyclonic storm, and earthquake, era as well as general other effects such as the opening of the earth's magnetic field to allow high energy particles to stream in to the planetary surface. Oddly enough the lunar alignment will also favor increased potential for earth magnetic field break down at just that time."

Hhhmmm, just *what* will come out of the sky in "the 7th month of 1999." 7th = July or September. Time-watching, glancing up every once in a while. Interesting times.

Thanks for posting this, Mark.
Another factor ... will the real problem please stand up?

Of all the planets, in all the galaxies, in all the universes... this comet has got to fly into mine...

-- (Casablanca@home.com), June 11, 1999.

Gary Goodwin has been responsible for some glaringly false predictions in the past, and I believe still claims that the sun converted from hydrogen to helium last year. Still and all, high weirdness is what the WWW is all about. "Men will die from fear of what is coming to earth." Looks like a long, hot summer here in the East: tan while you can.

-- Spidey (in@jam.com), June 11, 1999.

Well in the course of the sun's life it has been thought that it is approximately half over with it's cycle, with another five billion years before it runs out of energy and I guess turns into a Red Giant, encompassing the first three planets. I'm not much of an astro-physicst but I think that is the thinking. Maybe that is why it would explain the changes in chemical/gaseous composition.

Casablanca, Thanks for the laugh. Exactly how much wheat do I need to store for a comet strike?

-- (rcarver@inacom.com), June 11, 1999.

There have been hundreds and thousands of comets that have passed by here in the history of mankind. Without incident.

But of course this latest one just has to be related to Y2k.

A comet affecting the moon's orbit? Yeah, maybe it plowed straight into it, but probably not even then. Bill Clinton isn't doing anything about the threat? What do you want him to do, send troops?

We are approaching the peak of the 11 year cycle of solar flares, so none of this is unexpected. I seriously doubt that a little bitty comet could affect anything inside the massive sun, but I forgot where I put my astrophysics book.

There's plenty to be concerned about without worrying about this, IMHO.

Dog Gone you'd best duck and cover.

Common sense such as that isn't much appreciated in these parts.

You guys have got to stop this. People are looking in here and asking what I am laughing at.

I always thought Mr. Sagan perished at a rather young age....

Isn't a "Coronal Mass Ejection" what happens after drinking too much Corona?

-- Unc D (unkeed@yahoo.com), June 11, 1999.

"endorphins". Sorry for the typo.

Is it just me, or does "coronal mass ejection" sound like something that a guy needs to talk over with his doctor, in private?

Oh. It's just me. Sorry. *blush*

Got my tin foil on... Looking to receive data... You guys are truely the biggest bunch of wackos.

A heavenly body doesn't slow down when approaching perigee. I assume the approach to the sun is the closest point in it's orbit.

I'm sorry, I didn't see this in c4i's analysis so it can't be valid.

SO...the new powers that be won't delete such idiotic chickenshit as has gone on in this thread (and the other related ones)?

What then?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Actually,I know nothing about comet lee,but I have done some research on the flares and found an interesting sight,it states and shows pictures of parts of what they say is hail bop that came off and caught in the suns gravitional orbit.Nasa might be trying to cover it there are 2 senarios,ck it out.

I think McCanney is one of the best wierd scientists around. His plasma comet theory, which this Comet Lee analysis is predicated upon, explains quite a few things which the standard theory does not, such as the x-rays emitted by comet Hyakutake.

I've spent alot of time studying science dissidents, and these Millenium group guys (with a few notable exceptions) are amongst the best in terms of the quality of their arguments, and their ability to keep level-headed whilst charting new territory. I wouldn't rule out their announcements based on "what you learned at college", or on "common knowledge", and especially not on what NASA says. There's a lot we don't know and a lot that we think we know but probably don't, and these guys have an aptitude for looking in the right direction and asking the right questions. That being said, you shouldn't "believe" them, but don't automatically dis them either.

Introducing Comet Lee
Credit & Copyright: Gordon Garradd

Explanation: Another large snowball is falling toward the Sun. Comet Lee was discovered two weeks ago by Steve Lee (AAO) in Australia, and is expected to brighten as it approaches the inner Solar System. Comet Lee is not expected to become a naked-eye object, though, with recent projections guessing it will peak at magnitude 7 in July. Starting in May, the large piece of dirty ice officially known as Comet C/1999 H1 Lee will be visible to northern observers. Comet Lee is the fuzzy patch in the above picture taken on April 16 from Loomberah, Australia.
