I'm a grandmother taking family and vacation pictures. Would this Sony camera be a good choice or not?

Diane, the resolution of this camera is low. The ease of data transfer via floppy is what sony has done quite well with their Mavica product line. I would not recommend this Digital camera at this time. If you want to have the floppy based data transfer, I recommend the FD-91 with 14X zoom or less expensive FD-81 unit with 3X zoom. However if the floppy storage media is not the reason you are considering Sony FD-73, then there are many good DigiCams on the market that surpass Sony mavica line. Canon, Olympus, Epson, Toshiba make good products at reasonable prices. I would recommend to stay away from Smartmadia storage, select a DigiCam that uses CompactFlash or ATA PC (PCMCIA) memory media card. Good Luck.
