SONY MAVICA 91

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am surprised at how little info/comments is available about the SONY MAVICA 91. I am responsible for buying a camera for our physics lab (to shoot prototypes, experiments -oh, and people-) and after looking around I beleive the Sony 91 is the one we need, because of the (fast) floppy disk drive principally (many people using the one camera, don't want to loose the flash cards, etc) and also because of the good opical zoom (miniature experiments etc). The "low" 1024x768 resolution doesnt frighten me because pictures generally go into publications (quarter A4 size) or onto posters (A4 at max). The (limited) video feature also helps for scientific presentations. Any comments / interesting info-tips / hidden defects ? thank you to all Orphie France

I do have a Sony FD-91, and I am very pleased with the camera. I really like the 14X zoom, and the steady shot. As long as you are happy with the XGA resolution, this camera does a great job, the floppy drive access time is faster than standard floppy drive and I also like the steady shot function, I have taken many photos during the high speed racing, and during sports such as football and baseball games, I have had many occations, that steady shot was the reason taht I got a good photo. Outdoor this camera does a good job, indoor with low lights, you need to get use to how far from subject you need to be in order not to have a washed out or a dark photo (very much standard among the Digital cameras).
