Iodine/iodide/nukes...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Ok, I'm passing this info without comment or reccomendation.

I was told by a recoginized and experienced nuke tech that potasium iodide was not for sure the best way to go. He explained it can be dangerous for children, and besides that costs a fortune.

He then explained that he and all the other techs, before entering a 'hot' area (containment vessal?) did a very simple thing. They painted the soles of their feet with iodine solution. Just like we buy in the stores to put on whiney kids cuts. He said the iodine would penetrate the skin and overload the thyroid with iodine just like a potasium iodide tablet does, only safer.

Another med tech said it worked better if you painted the throat because it was much closer to the thyroid glands.

The ONLY comment I make, other than relating what I was told, is to say our family now carries iodine in every vehicle, med kit, emergency kit, and also have it in the house and camper. We also keep it at our employment.

Well.... one more comment.... One drug store I bought from made me give ID and sign off on buying a poison, but another branch of the same store did not ask my wife a thing. At 97 cents per bottle we have stocked up.

There is a big difference between potasium iodide and just iodine.

Also, potasium iodate.

I have a medical video on nuclear radiation that shows the difference

between these three and others. The iodine over 4 grams can kill

a person or make them deathly sick. That is why precautions need to

be taken while purifing water.

Whoever told you about putting iodine on your feet and/or your throat

to prevent contmination is all wrong.

As for internal usage, potasium iodate for surviving any fall out is

the only answer.

Please, if anyone is considering to survive a fallout like that in

the Ukraine with Chen-o-bol, research this topic very carefully.

Don't get the wrong stuff and die out there. Ei. Eating mushrooms are OK, if you know which ones to eat!

Do not skimp on your safety.

It is NOT that expensive and if used with care it is NOT harmfull for

kids and pets. No I have no afiliation with them and I do not get any

kickback from Anbex. I am just a satisfied customer.

Look at www.anbex.com .

You will find all the info you need.

Could the next person posting on this subject add on to this or one of these threads rather than starting a new thread?

If you purchase potassium iodide crystals, the cost per dose is less than $0.04 per dose.

Look on page 116 of NWSS ( see http://www.oism.org ) for details of the painting on of either tincure of iodine or povidone-iodine (betadine) technique. Please note the warning about skin irritation and read the original 1985 article.
