greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I've heard from more than one source that a Y2K oriented movie blockbuster (that remains to be seen)is due in the theaters soon. The movie is titled 'End Of Time' and stars Arnold Swartzenegger.Anyone have a factoid on this?

There was discussion about that yesterday on csy2k. Not Y2K. Weird plot, looked at the Web page, sicko! Not Y2K.

Need to be clear here. There's a tendency to lump "Y2K" in with "millenialism" and "end of days", and I see tham as very different. I define a "Y2K movie" as having a computer/technology basis and a premise and plot based on the drama or actions associated with coping with failures in computer technology associated with 01/01/00 and such.

From the trailers and the write-up on the Coming Attractions site, End of Days sounds much more along the lines of The Omen and all the other "Satan's here and he has very nasty plans for us all" movies.

Here's the Coming Attractions info:

End of Days

Genre: Action/Horror/Fantasy.

Studio: Universal Pictures.

Production Company: Beacon Pictures.

Project Phase: Greenlighted.

Who's In It: Arnold Schwarzennegger; Robin Tunney (Christine Bethlehem); Rod Steiger; Gabriel Byrne (The Man/Satan); Kevin Pollack. Who's Making It: Peter Hyams (Director); Andrew Marlowe (Screenwriter); Armyan Bernstein (Producer); Stan Winston Studios (Special Mechanical and Makeup Effects); WIFX/Blue Sky Studios (Special Visual Effects); John Debney (Musical Score).

Premise: At the end of the century, Satan visits New York in search of a bride. It's up to an ex-cop who now runs an elite security outfit to stop him.

Release Date: November 24, 1999.

The End of Days site is long on visuals and short on info.

Movie has nothing to do with systems not handling date math. More like Ah-nuld in a remake of Rosemary's Baby...

Slight change of subject.

The movie "Entrapment" with Sean Connery and ? (a beautiful young lady) has a Y2K twist.

Office Space was a Y2K movie. Funny too.

Grease -

That's Catherine Zeta-Jones, of The Mask of Zorro and The Phantom fame.
