Milne: Another challenge for pollyannas

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Let's see how many "But Paul, since an institution cannot be made absolutely 100% y2k compliant, the fact that we have no announcements makes perfect sense" responses from those with big brains.

Ready or Not? Some Shrug Off Problem, Others Fear Worst
By CAROL J. WILLIAMS, Times Staff Writer

ALLDORF, Germany--Despite fears the world over that the year 2000 is a ticking time bomb, there is no survivalist run on generators or
stockpiling of canned food in the bastion of engineering excellence that is modern Germany.
In fact, the only visible signs of the so-called millennium bug are the burgeoning sales revenues of high-tech industries selling Y2K solutions.

Germans view Y2K as an overrated "technical problem."

But the warnings emanating from global consulting firms such as GartnerGroup and Cap Gemini that Germany is woefully behind in the worldwide effort to avert a Jan. 1, 2000, catastrophe raise the
question of whether Germany is not just calm but complacent.

Britain, France and Italy--the other European members of the Group of 7 industrialized nations--also have been rated as wanting in readiness for the rash of computer breakdowns that might occur when systems designed to read the year as two digits misinterpret the change as 1999 to 1900.

German government agencies especially are lagging, but the biggest risks are being overcome by private sector initiatives.

Frank Sempert of SEC Sempert Consulting in Frankfurt, spokesman for Initiative 2000, a German private-sector Y2K effort, says a big fear is the finance industry, because of its tightly connected information systems governing trade and transactions

Despite the prevailing calm, warnings like that of the Federal Assn. of Producers of Medical Products that describes Germany's largest
hospitals as alarmingly unprepared have given rise to a small force urging hibernation as the best hedge against disaster.

================

All but the intentionally blind and self-deceived can see what is going on.

I had a German reporter call me the other day to ask for an interview. In the course of our converstaion he told me that he was astonished at the difference between the Y2K effort of Germany v USA.  It is all but non-existent in Germany.

The evidence that it is not getting done is amply out there.

How many working days left? 150?

Again, I ask, name 2% of the Fortune 500 that has remediated tested and put its systems back into production. Just ten companies. A lousy stinking 2%.

Name three major US Aiports that have done the same.

Name ONE US auto manufacturer.

Name ONE major US Oil co.

Name one tenth of one percent of the electric utility industry in the US. Just name 9 electric utilities that have remediated tested and are back in production.

It is about the eleventh hour and you can not even MINIMALLY do the above.

If you can do the above , I will kiss your bare ass in Macy's front showroom window in new York City.

Your BARE ass.

This is not an idle boast. I will kiss your BARE ass. Now, I know that the pollyannas are not about fair play at all. Everyone of them would LOVE to see me kiss the bare ass of a Pollyanna in the event that the above companies could be named. But NOT ONE of them would accept that if they CAN NOT perform the above that they should kiss mine.

This OUGHT to be an EASY task at this LATE date. Not only easy but absolutely necessary if they are to believe that these industries are substantially compliant.

C'mon Pollyannas. Once again, I give you the PERFECT opportunity. The perfect opportunity to show that I am mistaken. Something that you should be able to do with EASE if enough is actually getting done.

Hey Milne....if you're out there....I collect earned income credit from the IRS every year too, HAAAHOOOHEEEEEE! If they're stupid enough to put it in place...Ohhhhhh, I can't go on, fffffflllaaaaa!

Will Continue,

See, now that's leadership. Milne takes his stand, backs it up with hard data, let's everyone know his decision, and beats anyone over the head that can't come up with valid objections. I love the "no holds barred (or is that bared) challenge! When the going gets tough, the tough get going. That's Milne, like it or not, all the way.

And you will not find ONE pollyanna or ANYONE for that matter that can do what I have very simply requested. I have asked for next to nothing. And NOT ONE of them can deliver.

If so many companies are actually ready then my request should be able to be filled many mnay mnay times over. But, it can not. Because they are not compliant.

At very best they are scrambling to remediate a fraction of the totality of their systems. This brings up the issue of whether they have even identified exactly what, at the core, is necessary and even if they will do THAT properly. To date, no one of any significance has.

Again, not one person will be able to answer the simple challenge that I put forth.

The remdiation has failed. period. End of story. Go right ahead and believe that the wobbly global economy will continue with a fraction of the totality of global systems only partially remdiated. Only an idiot could believe that. Poole does and look at what an idiot he is.

Paul I would like to see Stephen poole and cherri take up your challenge. They don't have what it takes to do it,just as many of the pollys here don't.(They cant handle the truth about y2k remediation not coming in on time to save their way of lifestyle) They have built there foundation on sand. They choose not to find the truth and choose to believe the lie and wont do there own homework. For all the pollys out there who want to badger the diligent competent GI"s who did the research and long unpaid hours of labor, out of love and concern for their families, friends, and community to find out the truth about y2k. You can go kiss pauls rear. You are such selfish people. Y2k will be a killer and there is no doubt about it in my mind. Instead of throwing dung around, you should be doing all you can to help others make it thru the transistion safely. Y2k wont be a game and your arrogance will be remembered by those who didnt prepare based on your false confidence. My confidence is in the Lord. A time of trouble is fast approaching. We can bury our heads in the sand and bicker about the details or we can roll up our sleeves get to work and apply our hearts to help out our fellow brothers and sisters prepare for what will be the most difficult change of circumstances they have ever hand to experience in their life times with the exception of those who have experienced the calamity of all-outwar.
