Diane & all--

This evening I received an e-mail inquiry from someone who seems to be looking for this passworded forum, or a reasonable facsimile thereof. Since I don't know this individual, I've simply replied that the old forum is alive and well, plus supplying the URL.

This is the message, header and all (names bolded):

Tom,

Since the Yourdon forum folded, are you aware if there is another site that the regulars on Yourdon's bb might be meeting? I miss it very much and all the excellent information and suggestions I received there. Thanks for any information and God bless.

Mary

Diane can handle any further communication with this person, but if any of you are familiar with the names involved here, she ought to know about it.

Well -- I forgot about those little html tags. I'll try again, with # substituting for left & right angle brackets. Scratch the previous msg.

The recently discovered "comint" facility -- which tracks down real sources of troll posts -- could be a lifesaver here.

Anything to help Tom!

I'm trying to figure things out "backstage." Sometimes it's really easy to tell "who" is posting and what the interconnections are. At other times... Quien sabe.

That said, it's pretty obvious to tell who is a troll.

BTW, the "Forum" e-mail is y2ktimebomb2000@yahoo.com so you can send that to someone. I check it once a day.

We've actually had help questions.

Now if I could only read the thing you just posted.

;-D

Don't recognize that name. Which might mean something, or it might not.

Seems too a case of the "forum folded" rumors .. but then, wouldn't she have just re-opened the timebomb2000 forum and looked?

SWEEP6 is a moderately frequent poster named Mary, with whom I have had some e-traffic.

We GOTTA get a gateway website!!

BTW Robert, a LOT of people needed to access through Ed's site as we can't leave bookmarks on some of the machines we use.

see above

What's a 'gateway site'?

-- Anonymous, June 07, 1999

A "gateway site" would be "www.tb2k.com" for instance.

Understood - when asked, I could always remember www.yourdon.com; but the full title directly to the forum was always

????huh????idontremember.somethingorother//someotherextension//somethingelse

ditto

A "gateway site" would be "www.tb2k.com" for instance.

Is this different from some other kind of website?

(This is just curiosity -- I don't really need to know.)
