OKC Y2K Expo - Review

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

This morning, I went to the OKC Y2K expo at the fair grounds. There were actually more people than I thought would be there. Everyone had something to sell. The only person I saw not having any business was a person from a wireless company. I had to rib the pour guy to death. I think he would have had better business at the Gun Show next door.

Anyway.... the prices of the food were about the same as on the web. I purchased a few items that I was going to get next week in Texas, but from a company local to OKC. I bought dried butter, eggs, and cheese. Many of the vendors will haggle to meet or beet the other vendors price. They had these way cool 250 gallon water storage tanks like the 55 gallon drums (same diameter) only they were about 6 1/2 feet tall. Wish I could have fit one into my car!

Anyway, seems like the guy from the local company has learned from the government (not sure if city/county, state or feds) that the water supply in OKC is NOT compliant. He said that they didn't think that they would get it that way before the rollover. So... if you are in OKC, stock up on water. Reminds me... gotta run to Sam's club and buy a few extra of the 30 gallon drums.

Anyway, if you are looking for some long term storage... it is there. There was only one company that didn't have their food there and was doing the shipping thing. I told the man bad idea, as some people didn't want to leave paper trails.

Go see it if you can.

Sam's Club, 55 gallon plastic drums, $22.99 ea, stock # 968070.

Special order for most Sam's. Shipping is about $6 / barrel.

Don't take NO for an answer. They CAN get them...

I live in OKC. I've heard, through monthly bill inserts, postive spin from the electric and gas companies, but not one word from the city water people. How did this man find this out? Or was he just trying to sell one more water container?

Shannon,

He wasn't trying to sell me water containers. I told him that I had my water taken care of. I didn't even look at the water supplies that they had there (which wasn't much). I'm not sure where he found it out. All he said was the government said... and like I said before, I'm not sure if it was city/county or state/federal government. I'm not taking any chances however....
