I have no axe to grind with anybody! The ONE THING I DO KNOW IS, IF NOT FIXED, MOST OF THE COMPUTER'S IN THE WORLD WILL NOT WORK THE WAY THEY SHOULD, COME JANUARY 1ST 2000. This is fact, NOT fiction. This board has hit a new low

And how could someone debate that?

Reminds me of when I was vacationing in Toronto a few years back outside of Eaton Center. A guy was screaming in a language other than English or French so no one would understand him. And as everyone walked past, comments of just another nut.

If you think y2k is a hoax, for the next 30 days look at your receipts when you go shopping and see how many times you find 99 in the year field instead of an absolutely compient 1999. It's June and this is a testament about how prevasive the problem still is. A silent reminder that y2k looms just about every where. I Know what your thinking what about windowing. Well it was this moronic Idea that still if being tolerated that has caused us to be in the y2k pickle were in today. If you are a programmer still being forced to use the two digit standard, revolt. Don't continue to allow this bad practice to continue and become a problem for our children's generation.

Thanks Mike, but, wouldn't you agree that are children's generation already has a big problem ASIDE from windowing? "Come on Grandma, tell us about how they tried to fix it again...Please? Come oooonnn. We want to hear about Big Dog and Sysman and North and Yourdon. We're old enough to hear about Milne, aren't we?" NO, not yet. " Well, well would you tell us the Dragon Ranch story then?"

Thanks Zoob! An e-mail I got this morning put me a little over the edge. Somehow I posted it here, instead of on the e-mail window. Sorry folks. Then again, it was 5:30 am. I am a moron!

Y2k Aware Mike, The two or four digit date field on your reciept is meaningless. The year can sho up as 1999, but it can be purely asthetic. The date could be stored with two digits with the 19 added onto the print copy. The reverse is also true. For the sake of brevity, or the status quo the reciept could print up 06/05/99 while the computer actually stores the date as 06/05/1999.
