PDC-3000 Polaroid (SCSI, what a mystery!)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I bought the PDC-3000, and I can't figure out how to connect the SCSI. I already bought the correct adapters and my computer picks it up as a SCSI ID #4. I run Windows 98 and Windows picked up an unknown hardware and then found the PDC software for it and installed it. Everything works well until Windows boots up my Wallpaper, and then it gives me an Explorer illegal operation. It says that the program will be shut down. I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and there is no program to End Task. So then I'm forced to shut down Windows. When I restart I am forced by Windows to do a Scandisk and a Surface Scan which take time. I do not have a PC card reader on my desktop, but I have been able to use my camera with my laptop and tranfer via serial cable to the desktop. I really want to save time and tap into the SCSI which the camera was designed to use. Someone please help!

Thanks, Chad

It seems to me that you may have solved a big part of the problem yourslef. If the system is hanging when the wallpaper is trying to boot (not that I see why this might happen), then try disabling the wallpaper and screensave, and anything else that may be cutting into the normal operation of the computer. You may have to boot the computer in 'Safe Mode' in order to do this, if you are not able to boot your computer normally, or just disconnect the camera and try it that way.

During my install of the PDC-3000 software, everything went smoothly. I use Win95, however.

I feel compelled.....forgive me....

I got my new PDC-3000, charged the batteries, read a bit of the manual while I installed the software (a simple double click on the CD's "install" icon).

After a few hours (the manual said to wait about 6 hours to give the batteries a bit of a charge) I hooked the cable to my SCSI port, took a few shots of nothing in particular and transferred the photos to my hard disk where Ifussed the with photos using the Polaroid software. Then I did it the same using the Photoshop plugin.

No problem, no crashes, no freezes....no problems. I love my

OK.......with some tech support help from Polaroid I figured out the problem with the SCSI. I don't know a ton about computers, but basically the problem was that my SCSI was transmitting the info from the camera too fast. It was clocked at about 40MB per second I believe....After going into my SCSI controls of my computer...I clocked at around 5MB per second which we all know is still freakin' fast!!!!! Otherwise this camera kicks ass! I love it! If you have any questions yet about anything just let me know.
