Is it any wonder...

...that Ed got fed up with the bickering? Just read some of the threads around here with an open eye towards the venom spilling forth from both sides. Who is to blame? Beats me, I'm still working on that chicken and egg thing.

Just an observation, my $.02 as it were.

Cheers,

I agree with you. I think more and more will continue to fly away from the nest if it continues.

Unc D: I think that it was part of it. Posters who chronically and deliberately are disruptive will probably always be here. Remember Willy? The names change but the BS stays the same.

In fairness though, there have been a number of threads lately that had dozens of answers and good discussions without bickering and venom. The two I started over the last couple days, BigDog's TEOTWAWKI thread, that great thread by Bonnie Camp, etc.

If you get the chicken and egg thing worked out please let me know :)

A chicken and an egg were lying in bed together post-coitus. When the egg lit a cigarette, the chicken said, "Well, I guess this answers that old question."

Sorry for the off-topic, but I couldn't resist. As to an answer about how to stop the bickering, I haven't a clue. There is apparently no reasoning that has been effective, and not enough people seem willing to ignore it. It is sad to see that some good people have left because of it.

As for those who are deliberately disruptive, I attempt to ignore them. (My scroll buttons work just fine.) Just as I would ignore an ingnorant individual who was trying to tell ME how to sumo wrestle!

Don't think anybody's going anywhere except to spend more time on prep and then check back in. Ed checks in.

Chicken & Egg (if you can stand it) answer. Four billion years of evolution has produced what we have out of what we no longer have. Bird we would narrowly not call a "chicken" laid an egg. Egg hatched into what we would call the first "chicken". Egg wins the bet. Our problem not nature's.

Hi Unc, nice to see ya this AM,

I think Ed figured he did what he could, after the Senate gig. We're at < 7 months, and it is time to start checking the list. I doubt the recent "change" in the forum had much to do with it. He's been around the block a few times. <:)=

-- Sysman (y2kboard@yahoo.com), June 05, 1999.

His comments to me suggested that the Senate was a very disappointing gig. I won't put words like 'crushing' into his mouth, but it was very hollow for him.

Chuck

who has had that particular feeling too.

Chuck,

Time to repost your Compact.

I know if I was Ed, I'd have been disgusted with the whole Washington crowd. Sitting in CA, well, the feeling hasn't changed. I will say though, at least Seantor's Bennett and Dodd try.

Sad.

this board has become mostly entertainment for regulars, most positions have become so ossified that people don't seem to come here for discourse but rather to "get it on!"if I wasn't at work,I'd go outside, can't Imagine being here full time with out getting paid for it(tech support;the ultimate college slacker job!)

zoobie,

Then let's try to change it... again.
