Vaccinations/immunizations(OR getting your shot card up to date)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Last weekend I was piddling around in the garden and scratched my self with the rusty nail we all hear about. I didn't think much about it but the wife kept harping about my needing a tetanus shot.Yesterday I got my shot card out of the safe and found out I hadn't had one since 1983!

I called around and found if I went to the doctor the shot would cost 12.00$. If I went the the county health department it cost 5.00$. I went to the county and got the shot. While there I asked the nurse what they could do in the way of vaccination shots. She said they could shoot you up with the following:

1. Yellow Fever 53.00$ 2. Typhoid 19.00$ 3. Hepatitus A 21.00$ 4. Hepatitus B 97.00$(Series of three).

I had to tell her I was planning to do work in Egypt. From what I know any African country will allow you to get some good shots. The closer to the equator the better. She made a comment about getting Plague 1 and Plague 2 as well as malaria.I have to go to the Doc for those. I asked about anthrax and she said it wore off so quickly I'd need 2 vaccination series per year and it was a set of 3 shots. She also said it was too bad I couldn't get small pox and made a reference about the military still getting them.

I think I'm going to get the card up to snuff. The wife and children also. Who knows, If things get bad it might be useful to do . I looked in the threads and couldn't find any reference on this. I'd really like any information the medical types on the board might like to share about this.

Also if anyone can give the list of appropriate shots one should have in the case of "bad water" ingestion? unsanitary conditions?

POLIO: Salk: Four shots at varying intervals from 4-6 weeks to one or more years. Sabin: One oral dose for each of three types.

SMALLPOX: Vaccination every six years.

TETANUS: Original immunization: Three shots of toxoid at 4-6 week intervals followed by another shot one year later.

DIPHTHERIA: Combine diphtheria and tetanus at doctors recommendation with two shots at 4-6 week intervals: booster every 3-4 years.

INFLUENZA: Original: Two shots of type A and B combined two months apart. Booster: One shot each fall season.

CHOLERA: Original: Two shots at ten day intervals. Booster; One shot each six months.

TYPHUS: Original: Two shots at one to three week intervals. Booster: one shot each year.

Don't screw around with shots you don't need unless you are DARN sure we are talkin' TEOTWAWKI. Some of that stuff can make you sick. Some has side-effects. As you get older, it tends to take quite a few shots of most vaccine types to really be vaccinated against anything. I'm not a right-wing wacko. I work with this stuff.

BTW, Plague is no longer manufactured in the US. Don't know what you would be getting.

US Anthrax shot is supposed to be BS. Useless against airborne Anthrax. Go figger DOD shootin' all their guys/gals with it. The Russian one is much better, supposedly.

Again, don't experiment with your immune-system unless you are sure the benefits outweigh the risks.

IMHO, only tetanus is worth the risk in Y2K <= 9.

Definitely tetanus. Usually given as Td (tetanus-diphtheria). Good for 10 years. (5 years if really nasty cut).

Quite a rundown here on immunization. Somewhat controversial, maybe...

"Gunned" thousands of new troopees headed for SE Asia in '68.

Shot reaction was very rare. Could maybe the stuff has gotten worse but doubt it.

Quoting from the book Emerging Viruses AIDS and Ebola, by Leonard G. Horowitz, ISNB: 0-923550-12-7, Page 4, "In 1969...[the] United States Defense Department requested and got $10 million to make the AIDS virus in labs as a political/ethnic weapon to be used mainly against Blacks. The feasibility program and labs were to have been completed by 1974-1975; the virus between 1974-1979. The World Health Organization started to inject AIDS-laced smallpox vaccine into over 100 million Africans (population reduction) in 1977. And over 2000 young white male homosexuals (Trojan horse) in 1978 with the hepatitis B vaccine through the Centers for Desease Control/New York Blood Center..."

This was information from The Strecker Group that Dr. Horowitz originally tried to debunk, but 561 pages later he concluded the same thing.

After reading that book, NO MORE VACCINATIONS for my family!
