I almost forgot...

In case anyone is wondering how much water it takes to take a shower: I tested myself last night: one gallon to wash assuming you "pre-suds" and one gallon to wash hair (shoulder length).

Excellent! I have one of those 5 gallon solar showers...intended to test it out this weekend. Will let you know how it works out. Or has anyone else used theirs yet?

Solar showers were very popular on Kauai after the last hurricane.

We bought the solar showers too. Right now I only have one apiece for us. I keep planning to try mine out, but always seem to get busy with something else. Please let me know how yours works, Sheila. I thought about getting some extra, in case of punctures or leaks and for those days you just want to stand under the shower. (And after carrying that much water, I would NEED it!)

Also, although this may seem foreign (to many/most Americans, me included), try to conserve water while showering by doing the following:

1. Turn on the water and use just enough to get yourself wet, then turn the water off.

2. Wash yourself with soap and shampoo your hair.

3. Turn the water back on just long enough to wash the soap and shampoo off.

Just because you have five gallons of water in a solar shower doesn't mean you have to use it all.
