Shelters???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

All this talk of "reporting to shelters." Would somebody get real. How on God's green earth can any rational person expect the inept govt. of these fine ewe-knighted states to come up with shelter for 200 plus million people? This govt. can't even stage a war with a third rate nation. Please take a reality pill, set some provisions aside and plan on spending the millenium change where you normally hang your hat.

I live in Wisconsin, and can vouch for the truth of the "school generators" story.

BTW, ever hear of "camps"? Tents work too; doesn't have to be buildings....

Oh, corrine! *sigh* You just know they'll try; just like they did for the Kosovo refugees. *smirk* All they'll want to do is "help you!"... ad nausea...

In the USA we'll ahev all kinds of suitable "shelters" available after the economic collapse:

VACATED:

* Schools * Churches * Town Halls * Golf/Boat Clubs * HUGE ( self-contained and EASY TO SECURE ) EMPTY SHOPPING MALLS ( New Great Lakes Crossing Mall in Auburn Hills, MI is a classic! ) * Factories * Warehouses * Transportation Centers * Sporting Arenas * National Parks * State Parks * County Parks * Military Bases (re-opened) * Airport Facilities * Theme Parks (Sea World, Disney ~, Cedar Point, et al ) ...

You name it. Look around your community. It won't take long to envision how adaptable these facilities are predisposed for providing centralized "sheep" feeding and control centers.

The dilemma is, how much would YOU DARE reveal about you, your family's preparedness, to inquiring authorities in order to avoid the possibility of "re-location?"

What will the criteria be?... 1-month? 3-months? 6-months? 1- year? Some other morphing number as time passes?

These will be some of the hard choices to make, corrine!

Folks must be psychologically prepared to make ad hoc decisions and choices.

No government will be prepared to take care of everybody. THEY WILL TRY TO, THOUGH! Make no mistake. Lots of sheep will perish.

Practice the psychological paradigm shift... Imagine WORST-CASE alternatives ( editorial ) that YOU MAY be unpleasantly and reluctantly forced to face...

It'll help face the possible shock and trauma successfully!

My ex told me the red cross will set up at her school; she is on the team.

Shelters will only be used in a worse case scenario... However, the government will expect everyone to report in for the ration cards. On a weekly or bi-weekly basis, just so they can keep track of you.

I grew up in Minnesota. Tents in winter present definite problems. Canvas has a low R rating. There aren't enough Sibley stoves to deal with several hundred thousand people camping out. There aren't enough tents, either. Most winters the ground freezes pretty deep; digging latrine pits in January would take heavy equipment.
