Availability of Nikon Coolpix 950

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I want to order my Nikon 950 at buycomp.com. Does anyone know how long a wait to expect for this camera. Is there anywhere else that would deliver faster at about the same price ($771)? Thanks.

If you found out how long you'll be waiting you would cry. Before ordering from random places check www.resellerratings.com

If they show in stock, should be quick. If you go on a waiting list, then.... Verify with phone call if you want to wait through the lengthy holds. I placed a phone order with Buycomp.com because the item I wanted was not showing on their web yet at all (Epson 750 Photo printer). Received it the next day even though I "settled" for UPS ground after verifying with Sales Rep it was available and in stock. It was in stock at a site close to my home so it probably never would have come close to an airplane even if I'd paid for air! Your delivery time will be based on your location, their stocking point/s and time to get out their door. Then the method may come into play. Obviously if you go ground and it's stocked/available only across the country it'll be slower than air, etc. (Note: I received better price than found anywhere else with some checking and after B&H in NYC didn't have it. B&H rep said unlikely anyone had it (implied sites claiming availability were lying).) Be aware that they have multiple warehouses/shipping points and order desk is also not at warehouses so there is some possibility of intentional/unintentional miscounts/miscues in that large an operation but I could not have been more satisfied.

I ordered my camera from Buycomp on MARCH 2nd...still have not gotten it. Moreover, they charged my credit card back in March. When I asked last month if they would at least credit my account...they told me I would lose my standing on the wait list.

Your next call should be to your credit card company. It's likely this method is a violation of their business contracts/agreements. It might not speed you up the list but you should be able to get a chargeback w/o penalty. You might also check with your Attorney General's office. Record your next call with them (Buycomp), remember, they probably advised you they could be monitoring or recording your call for "quality assurance" purposes, just advise them first. You might get a better response. Again, unavailable is unavailable, but, taking money without delivering product is theft.

Thanks for all the responses. At least now I know this won't be easy. Buy.com now claims that they no longer charge your Visa until it's shipped, but I'm still not sure. I heard Nikon shipped 5/28 and that they will ship heavily by end of June. I hope this is true.
