Great News For Oregonians. WAKE UP!!!

Front page lead in the Oregonian News "Sun outbursts expected to complicate Y2K woes" (hear that ""Woes"")

"Researchers predict violent solar storms in January that could disrupt power, radio communications and satellites"

Maybe, just maybe, this will wake up the population. Now in the growing season, with a short 7 months left, and the complacency of dangerous proportions, I hope we can begin to see some real movement around the NW area.

The community Y2k meeting I attended last month had only 20 in attendance and most were not close to being informed, and our city y2k spokesman was completely misleading.

A huge thanks to Paul Recer of the Associated Press.

The story was quite explicit about the potential catastrophic consequences in the power, shipping, satellites (think GPS), Air travel.

The story made mention of various previous problems associated with solar flares including the 1989 blackout in Quebec, satellites lost due to misfiring engines, phantom images et.

Now is the time for all....to come to the aid of our country,

The Oregonian waits until @ 11/a to post their stories on their Web site. Here's their Y2K archives link:

Y2K Problem

We've been to all the Mayor's Y2K Council meetings ... zzzzzzzzzzzzz ... a good Mayor with good intentions surrounded by self-interested biz ppl extolling their various companies, and .gov folks determined to preserve the bank status quo at ANY + ALL costs.

Portland, once looked to as the beacon of worldwide Y2K community prep hopes, allowed itself to be intimidated by the spin and spun into a slumbering cocoon. We have been the jarring voice at the meetings, trying to force a little real truth into the happy-face biz-as-usual back-scratching Big Biz Boobs.

We *were* able to interject some real-life concern that having 100,000 drunk ppl partying in Pioneer Courthouse Square downtown at Midnight on rollover might be a tad risky. However, several ppl said they wouldn't be interested in partying without booze ... hhmmm, drunken driving anyone? Unbelievable!!!

TPTB are surprisingly ignorant. They can't get out of the biz as usual rut. And if you try to nudge them, they turn on you for discomforting them. 2000 will be interesting, to say the least. Who they gonna point the finger to when all are aiming at them?

Don't get us wrong -- there are really nice ppl in charge in Portland, but they are clueless. Only 2 ppl on the Council had even read the Senate Report, Michael Dowd being one of them. He's gradually seen the not-so-pretty side of Y2K, but not to the extent this Forum has investigated The Dark Side.

Where are Milne & Infomagic when ya really need them!

Oh, hey unspun, we'd love to meet you for lunch! eMail us ...
