Homemade water purifier using charcoal and gravel

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Several months ago--SOMEWHERE on the internet__I saw directions for making your own water purifier. I seem to remember that charcoal and gravel was used. I believe it was a two-piece DRIP purifier. At the time, I wasn't interested, but now I am. Does anyone know where I could get these instructions? THANKS!

This is NOT a purifier. It acts as a filter only.

Gravity Filter

Thanks, Bingo! This was EXACTLY what I had seen before and was hoping to find again. THANKS AGAIN!

Will the chlorine kill everything that could kill you?

We just had our well installed this weekend. We love it! We always wanted one anyway for watering since the city water is so expensive to use on the lawn.

We haven't had it tested yet, and will not allow the dogs to drink until the test is done, but the grass is greener already! And the water is nice and cold! The kids will love to play in it this summer, I am sure! [Sprinkler dancing, Slip'n'Slide, etc.]

This gravity filter is another interesting idea we could implement, but it appears that several will be necessary in order to collect enough water. We will probably try it on the fish pond now and see what it does.

The description matches the current filter we have in place, but on a larger scale. This pond filter uses an activated charcoal sheet, and is about 12" by 12" and 1/2" thick, with a 1" sheet of white mesh like the polyester mentioned. This filter doesn't last long, and the water is green again in no time, but the fish don't seem to mind. :-) The pond is approximately 360 gallons. We are considering switching to edible fish, but first we have to control the water.

Thanks for the link to the gravity filter plan.
