About the TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Forum

Founded by computer expert and noted author, Ed Yourdon...

This forum is intended for people who are concerned about the impact of the Y2000 problem on their personal lives, and who want to discuss various fallback contingency plans with other like-minded people. It's not intended to provide advice/guidance for solving Y2000 problems within an IT organization.

Please Note:

Ed Yourdon recently decided to re-focus his Y2K attentions and has delegated continuing moderation of the TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000). In his words...

Folks, As part of my "sayonara" decision, I've been looking for someone to take over the task of serving as a moderator/sysop for this forum. A group of forum "regulars" is in the process of organizing themselves; for the time being, they would prefer not to identify themselves by name, but these are people whose postings I've read over the past year, and whose objectivity, maturity, and common sense I respect. I think a lot of good discussions will continue to take place on the forum, and I'll be lurking from time to time. Best of luck with your own Y2K plans, whatever they may be. -- Ed

Since the Forum may be evolving, due to these changes, we ask that posters on the Open Forum (no passwords required), who choose to take part in our Y2K and Y2K-related discussions, do their best to honor each other and please participate under the following...

Forum (Interim) Guidelines:

1) Take care for yourself and others and be responsible for your Questions and Answers.

2) Help each other further the query, so we all benefit.

3) Tidy up this place--clean up the language used, try to ignore the trolls, and respect others comments even though you strongly disagree (respond to the message by not attacking the messenger).

4) Try to add value to our shared discussions.

5) Remember to be welcoming to the newcomers.

In addition:

Posts which are deemed highly obnoxious or rudely profane will be removed, without warning.

Any complaints, suggestions to remove a post, or requests for help can be made by sending an e-mail to the Time Bomb 2000 Sysop and/or Moderators at: y2ktimebomb2000@yahoo.com.

Any e-messages will be responded to, as appropriate, and as soon as feasible. (We are volunteers so please be patient).

A more complete set of "Guidelines" may be posted, if necessary.

Thank you,

For your interest and participation in the Time Bomb 2000 Forum.

Comments?

We could change the About then post a forum thread alerting poster to the addition and request their open comments.

Ideas?

BTW, I asked Ed, and he said he'd be "honored" to be referred to a "the founder."

Adding per Robert's "e" request...

Can't seem to get "reply to's" out today or last night, frustrating - I'll try answering directly. Fwd this to the others, pour favorite beverage.

I'd recommend changing the "signature" here to Sysop. Keeps it formal that way, rather then "groupy".

1) gopher it, or chuck wood, or beaver's trees away---- CRASH!

2) robert is RIGHT!

3) It actually looks REALLY good that way. Can't see anyone gettin their knickers in a twist. Besides, This sharing idea wasn't anyone elses but YOURS. If you decide to do something, well, it's your baton. PLEASE remember that YOU are the lucky winner. THose of us who can see around our egos will, those of us who can't, can just go back to informal leadership roles, and nothing has changed, except perhaps a sorta closer relationship to the sysop. Whoopee (makes circle with index finger pointed skyward).

BTW It might help if you were to issue an e- to the core team so we have SOME FOOLISH IDEA who we are working with. i have NO PROBLEM with the larger e- list, but, well, I can't remember who knows what any more (sour perplexed laughter, primarily because I DON'T think I can blame that on seniority moments).

Could you throw the Prep archive form on the about page?

-- Anonymous, June 01, 1999

You betch'a Brian.

Good idea. I was hoping it could be worked into the top level, but that looks rather fixed for now...

Unless you know how to alter it?

Is the regular old hotlink enough or is there a fancy way of doing it in the About area?

Quick note:

Stuck Brian's Preparation Archives "code" in the Forum ABOUT link. You may want to test it.

Gotta run.
