QUESTION: Should this space be JUST for Moderators?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Forum Moderators : One Thread

Or should we plan on opening it up to the "long" mail list crowd as a "private" chat space, AFTER we've set it up, so-to-speak?

Also...

In reading instructions, once a category is "set" it can't be changed unless Phil Greenspun does it.

HOW are categories "set?"

Don't know yet - I enjoy the thought of simply writing and discussing things quietly.

"Moderates" maybe, not "moderators"?

Moderates. Like that one, Robert.

;-D

In a few words (hi hi) just moderators is good. wider e-list is bad.

Explanations. we are goint to need a place to hack and slash our way into a consensus with a moving target. This wil NOT necessarily be pretty. The quote about lovers of Law and Sausage comes to mind. We don't need that sort of thing in front of the even restricted larger group.

Besides, we are ALL going to have times when we are going to need to let our hair down and SCREAM at SOMEONE who will, hopefully understand. And, if there comes a time when one or another of us accidentally (yup) crosses the line, we need a place to store our wet noodles. Or our nun beads. Or our cattle prods and banding guns. ;+)}

NOTHING in the forgoing would prevent a second errrr third forum for the larger e-mail group.

Folks

I have Emailed Diane that I feel Big Dog should be aware of this forum. He has the best interest of TB at heart and has been the most active on the Elist (apart from Old G :o)

A suggestion

I would prefer a more open forum but that is not a firm stance. I haven't had that many emails in a long time, out of practise

Concur - emailist is getting a bit too big to be manageable - made tougher since my router isn't getting any "reply to all" throught to anybody.

Ergo, ipso facto, I'd druther discuss things here. passworded as currently setup.

Who? Subject to debate of course and consensus.

I'd vote for adding BigDog.

I'm on e-overwhelm too. Clearly we need a place to "let the hair" down and hash out stuff.

Diane, who feels like she's made so many mistakes already, that she needs something to DRINK (and that's NOT another latte).

Ah, but dear lady - but if you did nothing, and were trusted with nothing, you'd make no mistakes. Course, you'd have done nothing either - accomplished nothing, and we'd all be poorer for your lack of mistakes and seemingly perfection - that is, you'd be a perfect statue.

Think I'd rather be richer, than you be encased in concrete or marble.

I concur Robert.

I'll repeat something here from another thread. D, it IS your baton. The decision is YOURS. YOU were the one who initiated the sharing idea, and YOU are the one who gets to make the calls. Errors come with responsibility. We who make a LOT of them can tell you that, eventually, they go away. Besides, last time I checked, the sun was going to come up in the morning, and you were going to be able to see it set over the ocean in the evening.

BTW Gran Marnier if you like the fruit thing. Glenlivet if you just want the ETOH.

Chuck

Just a note to your comments, Patrick is going to be co - management (as I understand it) with Diane so it would be wise for them to have a bit of a chat together. I think Patrick will be a good choice for the co-position. We are going to have to show a bit of restraint till they come to mutual agreement. I can't blame Diane for being a bit wierded by the situation. I am.

I also would vote to allow BD access.

Brian: YUP, Understood this from early on, and IRRC it was D's idea to share with him, and this group.

LOL Chuck,

Wish I had "the fruit thing." A Gran Marnier sounds good.

(See new post re: Patrick)

Learned long ago.... always have a back-up.

I'll give it another day on BigDog and see what the rest who haven't checked in have to say.

BTW - ref BIGDOG, I think he'd be an excellent addition here. Nothing like handing some responsibility to someone in his position.

Okay,

I'll contact the BigDog.

Been (trying to) look through, thinking about the "email list" of folks - seeing a common comment repeated - "too long, too hard to get business done, can't read all of them, .... all result in -> get me off of the list.

Probably is (past) time to do that - use this forum "moderately" for whatever comes up - based on a consistent invite from the Sysop(s) directly to those guys in the email list. It will let them (me too - he said!) clear the directory of this weekend's comments.

Yes, Robert.

I'd prefer to rely on this place, and just use the "e" system for key communiques, time-sensitive in nature.

Is it calming down yet?

The Emails seem to be getting fewer and fewer. This is a good thing. I much prefer the forums but it was a interesting move toward solidarity anyway.

Hey yo boss lady person and alternate Irish-type New York boss person! It okay I electric mail dem other guys 'n tell dem folks we gonna talk o'er here now? (Dese all gotta get dat pissword iffen we do dat.)

-- Anonymous, June 04, 1999

For the record... Robert's earlier communique...

"Date: Tue, 1 Jun 1999 15:32:14 -0400 Based on increasing feedback at the "I'm swamped" level, recommend we invite in the email group to swap over to the Moderated Forum. Most reliable (secure) to do it one-by-one rather than a group email since you would be including the password.

Or make a single Mega-email telling of switch in locations, and ask each on the list to email you directly for password. This emphasizes the "privacy" aspect, and let's user (receiver) decide whether to jump in or not. Problem with single email - as we found Saturday, is that the "real message" inside is invisible to user, and the password (or invitation itself/notification itself) could verve likely be skipped entirely."

I thought there was a move to first "e" them to see if they are interested?

Yes? No?

Or as an alternate idea should we instead set up the "new" secure area per Big Dog's suggestion, with nifty categories, yet to be determined, et. al.

Comments?
