Buying b/w film by mail

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

Has anyone found a reliable, reasonable mail order catalog to order their b/w film through? I live in a small town that only sells color film. If so, could you send web site add. or 1-800 # to order catalog?

Thank-you very much!!!

Susan, Lately I've been using Calumet Photo to get film, paper, and chemicals that I haven't been able to get locally. Their internet address is www.calumetphoto.com. I've been pleased with their service and so far they've had whatever I've been looking for. Bob

I use Calumet also, and have been pleased with their service for 4yrs now. They have a 1-800-CALUMET. The staff is very knowledgable and helpful. You might want to get them to send you the Essentials catalogue that has all their film, paper and chemical supplies in it.

Also try B&H Photo. www.bhphotovideo.com

I don't have the 800 # handy, but the web site has it. Very good to deal with.

Susan,

I recently priced both FreeStyle Sales (in CA) and B&H in NYC for film prices. B&H came out ahead of FreeStyle, even when shipping costs were factored in. This is assuming that you order more than just a couple rolls of film, because shipping at B&H is $5.95 for the first pound and $0.75 per pound after that. I bought 40 rolls (20 B&W and 20 color chrome) and paid about $0.35 a roll less on the B&W than I would have if I'd gone through FreeStyle. The savings on the color slide film was even bigger.

My order came in a timely fashion, with everything there. However, I'd probably go with Freestyle if I was just ordering 5-10 rolls or so, since their shipping is free.

B&W film by mail

Susan, For years now I have been ordering, and receiving, film and papers from Adorama and B&H and getting competitive pricing. I found that Freestyle costs a bit more when buying T-Max, Tri-X and other top-line films but they have European films that are not so high-priced. I prefer Ilford films or Tri-X.

Buy a copy of Shutterbug Magazine and scan ALL the ads and then use whoever has the best prices.

Another place to try is the Film Club. www.thefilmclub.com or 888-FILMCLUB.

I have recently done some business with them and have been very happy. VERY good and VERY quick service, as good of prices as B&H on many things, and free shipping for orders over $100.

Susan, I buy all of my b&w supplies threw a place called Valley Litho Supply. Their variety is not large but they have had every thing I have needed so far and they are cheaper than B&H. There E- mail address is valleylitho@msn.com .They also have an 800 number it is 1-800-826-6781. Good Luck, Barb

My husband and I have been buying Neopan and Tmax 100 and Tmax 400 in 100 ft rolls from B&H and rolling our own film cartridges. Very easy to do and very inexpensive. You can get about 20 - 36 exposure rolls from 1 100 ft roll. At under $30 for a 100 ft roll, it comes our really cheap. We also by transparency film (Velvia, etc) in the same manner. Have found Wal-mart sells Fugi Superia 400 cheaper than B&H
