Slik pro 500 dx tripod

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I was given a Slik pro 500 dx tripod as a gift. I'm not too familiar with Slik's product but it seems more photographers favors the Bogens and the Gitzo. However I will be keeping the Slik as it seems to be quite a solid tripod. My question is, has anyone use this model before and their impression of it. I can't seem to find any reviews or information on the web about this certain model, not even in Slik's web page. They only have info on the pro 700 dx model which seem to be the bigger version of this. Thanks for any response.

Brandon, every tripod is better than none. One given as a gift is even FREE!

Sorry, can't comment on your particular model...

May THE LIGHT be with you!

Brandon:

I have a 300 DX and really like it. I believe a 500 DX is the legs of the 300 and the head of the 700 - at least this is what I surmise from the specs. I believe it's only sold by B&H. Check out their website (www.bhphotovideo.com). Does the head have bubble levels and a round quick release plate? If so, it is the same as the 700 (the 300 lacks the levels and has a rectangular QR).

I really like my 300 DX. I looked at Bogens and Gitzos, and decided I liked the handling of the Slik the best. The fact that it cost less was a bonus. I think it's as good as any tripod its size. Put it to use.
