New documents on NERC site

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

NERC has recently (over the past few days?) updated the files available on their website. Of particular interest are the NERC Y2k Workshop Materials and the "Draft NERC Y2k Reporting Process -- The Final Phase" (an Adobe .pdf file). There's more, but if you're timebound, these are the highlight areas of information that I'm wading through as time permits.

Hello Rick. A while back you lamented the possible problems for IPP's and Y2k, using US Gen as an example. Please review US Gen's presentation they gave at the NERC conference. I was there for the presentation, and I was impressed with how much effort they have put into their program, and that it is just as well organized as us "regular" utilities. Pay particular attentions to slide 14: As a result of their tests to date, there have been "No identified show stoppers". I hope this allays your concerns, and the concerns of many on this forum.

Now, will you and Drew PLEASE come to the next NERC conference, so you can hear this stuff first hand? I hear it's going to be the second week in August.

I'll endeavor to be there, Dan, and will watch for details of the workshop when posted. That might be interesting - me and Gerry Cauley in the same room. ;-) I don't know about Drew - he'll have to answer for hisself when he returns from hiatus (he's on vacation this week, lucky dog...)

Please note that I wasn't picking on U.S. Gen; they just happened to be a handy example because I can see the stack of one of their plants out of the west facing windows of my house, and one of them out of the east facing windows of my house.
