And We Don't Have Enough Problems?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Russia is talking about ending diplomatic relations with us, and tanking from SALT. They say if we don't get out of Yugoslavia we could be facing a "HOT" war (CNN undoubtably couched words here). I'm sorry but I just think we shouldn't be risking our lives on this one. Washington seems to be oblivious on this, and if anything is preparing to show more muscle. I can't believe the future of this country is being risked in a pissing contest. Unfortunately we probably have much worse things to worry about than Y2K. Got Radiation Suits?

Hey, Gia, did you see that Anschant Prophesies show?? I remember it saying that there would be a Nuclear War in 1999! The show was made in 1994-95 I think!! It seems like that prediction is coming true! I am becoming more worried with each day! Y2K, nuclear war, terrorism, a NWO government takeover, ect... We are staring into the edge of an Abyss, and we are going to fall in one way or another... *sigh* But the question is, from what?

-- Crono (Crono@timesend.com), May 27, 1999.

Poppycock paranoia from another Y2Krackpot bedwetter.

The world is no more or less dangerous today than it was last week or last year. Crawl out from under the couch, open your front door, go outside and get some sun (and some spine while you're at it).

I have to agree with Y2K Proon this one. I can't believe I'm actually agreeing with Y2K Pro. What's this world coming to?

Russia has been getting many handouts for many years like grain, grain, grain, money, money, money!!!!!!!!! etc, etc, etc,!!!!

Russia is not going to bite the hand that feeds it! This is guaranteed! If they Nuke the USA, they're in deep shit without food for Y2K!!!!

Lisa,

Don't you realize that you shouldn't contradict "Y2KPro"?

He's on, "A Mission From God" and is always right. . .

YO PRO!! Stick to remediation and not geopolitics. Have you looked in the direction of India/Pakistan??? There is a higher liklihood that that little fracas wil go nuclear than many want to accept. It would be extremely easy for them to cross the line as the issue there is not just territory, but religion, and culture incompatibility. Neither side grants the other true Human status.

C

And, like suicide, which once attempted gets SO MUCH EASIER because it REALLY doesn't hurt that much to cut wrists, Nuclear war could become very much easier as we find out that low yield, tactical weapons do NOT generate a huge cloud, etc. And that the "fallout issue" is less than PSR wants us to believe.

This is an analogy. Joe Average is accosted by his big, brawny Uncle Sam. Uncle Sam says "Give me sixty dollars ( = 12 billion dollars divided by 200 million adult American citizens)!! If you don't give it to me I will point my gun at you and ask you to go to jail."

Joe Average scratches his head and says, "Shucks. If it comes down to THAT, go 'head, TAKE IT! Just please leave me alone so I can go play in the stock market and watch my football game."

Joe Average then feels an inkling of suspicion. "What are you going to use that sixty dollars for?"

"I'm going to buy a gun with it, if you MUST know, you stupid peon. Then I'm going to go shoot our neighbors across the pond. Then I'm going to rub the faces of the survivors in pig feces. Those bad neighbors are offensive to me," snarls Uncle Sam.

"Oh," says Joe. "I'm not so sure this is the right thing to do. Can't we think of another thing to do besides shooting our neighbors across the pond? Isn't there a way to help solve this problem without shooting them and rubbing their faces in pig feces?"

"SHUT UP, you lousy, unpatriotic, extremist, rat!! Can't you see that I need to maintain my credibility?!!??"

"What credibility?" asks Joe A.

Let's see. I got good news, and I got bad news.

Good news: The Shuttle lifted off successfully. France agreed to extradite an American counter-culture "guru" (who in all likelihood murdered his girlfriend and stuffed her body in a trunk in his apartment.) Scientists may have discovered a way to attack the new, antibiotic-resistant strains of "bugs".

Bad news: Lead by the US, NATO's attempting to subdue an area of the world that is generally agreed to be a quagmire. India's bombing their bitter enemy, Pakistan, and losing a few planes in the process. The Dow fell out of bed. The UN high court indicted the sitting head of the Yugoslav government, which will of course improve chances of a diplomatic settlement in the Balkans. The Red Chinese have now neutralized our primary military advantage. Weather this winter may be much nastier than normal.

Yeah, you're right. We're doing fine, just fine.

Y2K Pro,

You may be a Y2K Pro but that does not mean you know anything about the coming war. I am (somewhat) a Bible Pro(phet) and I say that we are in danger. If you cannot see that then you are truly blind. Few people I run into who are well off and comfortable have a clue as to what is going on in this world. I prefer comfort and an easy life but I will not be fooled, as many on this forum will not be fooled. We are in trouble. The world is in incredible danger! Most of the focus of blame will be laid at our door and the enemies of this nation will seek revenge. If nukes are used they will be limited because our enemies want what we have, they do not wish to destroy our wealth...just US!

Russia doesn't have to do anything overtly to harm the US. All they have to do is sell thier weapons and technology to Iraq, Iran, Syria, North Korea, etc. They (and China) are already doing this to some extent and I expect it to increase. I am really surprised that hasen't yet been a major biological, chemical, or muclear terrorist attack against the US.

-- Dave (dannco@hotmail.com), May 27, 1999.

Ever since the Soviet Union collapsed, the U.S. and its allies have been pushing Russia into a corner. Instead of expanding NATO to include Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, we should have joined with Russia to guarantee the independence and neutrality of Eastern Europe. The U.S. and Germany have been engineering the breakup of Yugoslavia for almost a decade. First we supported the independence of Slovenia and Croatia. Next it was Bosnia. Not it is Kriena.

The Russians are destitute. They have nothing to lose. What would we do in their situation. Clinton is a war criminal of the first rank.
