making VCD's using ATI all in wonder video card

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have just ordered a graphics card made by ATI called the all in one wonder. Apparently will allow video capture. I suspect though that it will only create AVI's. My question is what software should i purchase to do the MPEG conversion and how well does it work.

I have tried ATI all n wonder (with 2MB RAM) and the video capture was not satisfactory ( Try upgrading it to 4MB - it's upgradable!) I hope this will help eliminate the problem. Just as what you thought about it, it outputs *.AVI only so you need a VCD burner software with built-in MPEG encoder. CeQudrat V3.5 can do this for u. It is in fact VCD V2.0 capable.Should you choose Adaptec VCD creator V3.5- which doesn't have a built-in MPEG encoder, you must first encode all your *.AVIs to *.MPG. A bunch of free MPG encoders are waiting for u at www.slinker.com/tools/files/.

I have the All-in-wonder 4 meg and it can almost keep up at SIF (CIF NTSC) format using the ati vcr 1.0 codec with an audio rate of 44.1 16 bit. But it still drops frames.

I also have another machine with the All-In-Wonder Pro, 8 meg. It can keep up. No dropped frames on those same settings.

First capture your AVI with ATI4s digital VCR2.0 it takes less space from your precious hard drive. Second (I) use XING encoder to compres your AVI to mpg or vcd format. It4s quite fast and quality is nice too. You can download try out version from www.xingtech.com All so you can register that try out very cheap......

I have just recently purchased the 32MB version of the ATI All in Wonder 128 and there are several formats to capture video on this card. So far, I just have to figure out how to get the Mpeg files onto VCD. I have heard from very many people in the forum here that Adaptec's Easy Cd Creator 4.0 gives everyone problems... Who knows!!!

I HAVE A ATI ALL IN WONDER PRO 128, SHE HAS 32MBS RAM. THIS CAPTURE BOARD, DOING VCD CAPTURE, HAS A BAD QUALITY !! ITS NO GOOD TO MAKE A DIRECTLY VCD WITH THIS BOARD !! WE MUST DO WITH AVI VCR 1 CAPTURING, THEN USE TMPG ENCODER SOFTWARE WITH ILEGAL VCD 1246 RATTER !! ALMOST ALL CAPTURE CARDS DONT HAVE GOOD IMAGE IN THE VCD CAPTURING ! ITS NORMAL, THEY DONT WANT US TO BE A HEROES !!! MY VCD ARE 100% ALMOST DVDS !!!!!
