Will the rats, soon be leaveing the sinking ship?

Given the fact that DC is in such bad shape, I think the Fed. Government will have to move alot of people out of DC to give it at least a shot of functioning after the rollover. This will take time, lot's of people. When/or do you think this will occur?

I don't think the gov't will move anyone out. The JQP won't move either until the ship starts taking on water. All of Congress will be at home in their warm homes with their generators purring and wonderful smells coming from the oven. And those in the White House will be snug in their beds, while visions of NY Senate seats dance through their heads. You had better hope that if DC crashes and burns that they keep them in, and not out. After 60 minutes, everyone will head for Mongomery County.

I don't see anyone leaving in preparation for Y2K. If people stay in a town where it is dangerous to walk the streets, I don't think they will be worrying about a computer problem. The typical reaction will be: "Yo! Why should i kare? I aint got no fuc?ing PeeCee!!".

AFTER Y2K could get interesting, though...

A Contact of mine recently was at an Emergency Prep meeting at O.C. Maryland last week. This is what is going to happen with D.C. at the "Transition" -the new unofficial term.

During the recent NATO conference, they shut down the city, as in ghost town, birds chirping, squirrels running across Penn Ave.

The current plan is shut doen the city for approx 14 days starting 30 DEC 99.

I live in Montgomery County and there is now some nervous laughter about the people from DeeCee heading this way.

I have other plans.

Homer- That sounds possible and can always be extended.

Shutting down DC should be fairly easy as the rats will have already deserted the ship - Congress is in recess for Christmas about the first week of December. Question is, will the gov pronounce as the local govs have, that there will be no vacations at that time? And, will that cause a panic with Congress or will they go on biz as usual since the "law" doesn't apply to them - as usual...Makes one wonder if - they may not be prepared at their DC address, but are they prepared at the "home state" address? And if so, perhaps at that late date we will be able to "guess" at how bad it will be by how loud they scream about not being allowed to leave DC and if they must stay in session. If they stay in session, my quess to spin would be that they are staying in session to calm the fears of a jittery nation, and I would bet the rumblings will start around the first of November.

I have absolutly no doubt that the fine feathered birds, supposedly running our government, have been, are, or soon will be feathering their nests somewhere other than Washington D.C. Of course they will keep up a good face but if and when anything goes wrong, it would not be wise to be standing in the doorways as they are getting out. Talk about stampede!
