Seabrook audit revisited

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

FactFinder,

A long time ago, you said you were going to research the problem Seabrook was having with the RVLIS system, and see exactly what the problem was.

Is that problem listed in the EPRI database? If so, what does it say about it? If not, why not?

Jon, It goes without saying that I have been busy and apologize for not getting back to you on this sooner. I cannot disclose specifics of the EPRI database due to non- disclosure rules which helps ensures that the utilities will readily share information. I can say that industry databases that I have seen include information on almost all major systems, but not from all utilities - such information is voluntary, and as it is with most efforts, the few contribute most of the information used by the many. I can say that I have found nothing earth shattering in these databases. I can also say that while databases such as EPRI's are helpful, its only one tool in the Y2K arsenal, such as: * Utility Y2K assessments * Vendor Y2K assessments * Peer contacts at other plants * Industry databases * Industry conferences * 3rd party Y2K support

As far as Seabrook's RVLIS system (a safety related system), I do not have a close contact there, however I did mention some contacts on ICCM/RVLIS I had at other plants, and I have managed to gather some very interesting details on ICCM/RVLIS, typical of the suprises that often come up in y2k testing. I will post the full details (less the plants involved)for you when I have a bit more time. I have two sources and seen supporting documentation on this one, but will be interested to see if anyone else working in the nuke industry frequenting this forum has anything to add. Regards,
