What Camera for Product Shots for Web?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am looking for a camera that will be principally used to photograph products such as those you might find in your kitchen cupboard. I expect to shoot these products on a blue or green background, (probably using 3200-degree hard lights although I have a professional strobe available) import them into PhotoShop, make the background invisible, and then use the pic on a web site. For this particular application I don't need exceptional resolution -- the largest pic on the site will probably be around 2-by-2 inches. What I need is adequate resolution, good color rendition, the ability to focus on a continuous range (macro, close, moderately close, etc.), and a quick transfer to my PC (firewire?). I will be taking many shots in house, possibly under deadline, and I want the camera/hardware/software to maximize efficiency. Although I would like to minimize cost, I want to maximize value, and would be willing to pay somewhat more for a camera with better resolution or features that I could justify for future applications. Any advice on the camera (and the process or hardware/software part of the solution) would be welcome. Thanks!
