Paging Stan Faryna - name polys when you post newbie thread

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Stan, when you repost your GI thread, I think it will be helpful to newbies if you name the polys and explain what they are trying to do on this forum.

Sandman,

I'll consider it, but I don't know all of them (Pollys and Doomers) as I'm a bit selective in my reading. Perhaps, you could provide me a list and corresponding number of Y2K impact they might be associated with. For example, Mr. Decker seems to be a 3, Poole about a 1, and Norm a 0. In fact, we might provide a list of names each associated with a number on predicted impact. Thanks for thinking about this.

Sincerely, Stan Faryna

I am preparing for a 5

-- Rickjohn (rickjohn1@yahoo.com), May 24, 1999.

We imagine it could be an 8, but only have the money/space to prepare for a 3. Bug-out to outer limits glen/vale/dale fortress would be ideal. This Forum has helped tremendously with physical, mental, emotional preparation -- thank you, all. And we've been getting ready for the huge Cascadian Subduction Zone earthquake for years ...

Preparing for a 7 or 8 as of mid-May, hoping for no more than 2 or 3. (Not based entirely on Y2K, rather on a combination of several indicators, including the economy and Dr. Gray's long-range weather forecasts)

STAN: In my opinion it would be wise to avoid making value judgments for those "newbies" that you may beleive either not to be capable of making such determinations for themselves, or that they somehow may be "misled" and thereby delaying their making of the "correct" assessments.

I say this because there is something inherently arrogant about thinking that such assessments must be made for whoever those people may be. Its logical premise is that they, unlike we, may not be capable of not only deciding for themselves who represents what opinion on this forum, but also that they may not be wise enough to properly determine the wisdom or folly of whatever respective arguments "established" Pollies/Doomers may offer.

You, Decker, BigDog, Diane, and a host of others whose names do not immediately come to mind, are far too valuable contributors to this forum to engage in this sort of drivel.

Have the respect for others that you have earned and are entitled to yourself. It is beneath you to do otherwise....

With an-ever increasing respect,

I've been researching Y2K for a year (oy vey!) & prepping for about the past 10 months. Just can't seem to break the 90% finished barrier. Been there since the end of January.

I'm hoping for 7+ slider, but expecting 4-6. Fingers crossed!

Sandmann, feel free to express your opinions. Hopefully you can manage the art of civil discourse with more tact than some of our rather boisterous residents.

Why foist "protector of the forum" duties on Stan? Aren't there enough folks already spewing forth gobs of negativity, after having ingested same from the vilification buffet? Care for a second helping of character assassination anyone? The better to direct even more bile at Mr. Decker. Have room for a few more statements of abuse? Flint may not be impaled quite deeply enough upon the poison-tipped spears thrust repeatedly his way.

Yes Sandmann, please identify these supposed polys. Let's pour gasoline on the fire, a fire born on the inherently combustibile nature of ignorance, fueled & re-fueled ad nauseum with insensitivity, incomprehension, & utter lack of compassion.

Now back to your regularly scheduled flame-baiting posts...

I thought what "pollys" were doing to this forum was to counter the incesant rantings of conspiracy, NWO, cover-up, paid shill, etc.

I guess sandmann just doesn't want anyone to disturb the cult. make sure you warn all the newcomers, sandmann; "Logical debate will NOT be tolerated!"

Jan 2000 -- 1 or 2

June 2000 -- 3 or 4

June 2002 --- 5 to 8

My problem is that when I read Kelly's site , I don 't think it is an 8, but then I read the experts who are saying an eight, and the definitions they give of 8 sounds more like a 5 to me.

polys are predictable, aren't they? I made a perfectly gentile suggestion directed to Stan Faryna about what polys like to do on this forum. Of course, what they like to do is flame anyone who has an opinion dissimilar to their own. I was not vituperative nor did I flame anyone, but "Bingo!", here comes Bingo with a flame:

"Yes Sandmann, please identify these supposed polys. Let's pour gasoline on the fire, a fire born on the inherently combustibile nature of ignorance, fueled & re-fueled ad nauseum with insensitivity, incomprehension, & utter lack of compassion.

Now back to your regularly scheduled flame-baiting posts..."

What polys to is try to discourage newbies in general new posters in particular.

Nevertheless, I will not respond in kind. You are welcome to your opinion, polyanna.

That's Ok Sandmann. Sometimes I get confused too. Here's a breakdown of the paragraph you refered to:

'Fire' = caustic, expletive-filled rants which I feel are born of ignorance, insensitivity, incomprehension, & utter lack of compassion.

'Gasoline' = gratuitous labeling of posters.

"Now back to your regularly scheduled flame-baiting posts" = Everyone can go back to reading other posts.

I'll accept the label Polly. Or Doomer. Or Moderate. Or Fool. Say what you will - I'll love you still. :-)

And I ask you again, Sandmann: What are the pollys attempting to do on/to this forum? Whom & what? BTW, my e-mail is genuine. Send your answer privately, if you wish.

Sorry folks. I tried to explain this to Sandmann privately, but it seems the e-mail address given is not functioning at the present time.

It would delight me if newcomer's actually read my earlier posts and reached their own conclusion. If I find the time, maybe I'll cut and paste my comments to a small web page somewhere.

Regards,
