'60 Minutes' Transcript Question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

To those of you who have read the transcript thusfar (located at):

http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=000rbd

I'm going to have to pack it in shortly for tonight. I'm an early riser though, and plan to finish tomorrow.

My question is this: Do you want to read the rest of it?

If so, answer on this thread (you already know not to post to the other one). I'll keep going (I have the whole thing on audio and video tape) if you think it might be worthwhile.

:)

FM

Yes! Many people missed it, also by being able to read the transcript we can digest it better. Thanks so much for doing this. I plan to email it to people I know who missed the broadcast.

Most definitely :-)

-- Tim (pixmo@pixelquest.com), May 23, 1999.

Yes. I looked on the cbs.com site and they sell their transcript or video, so it's not readily available for "immediate" consumption. Yours truly missed it for a fantastic church sermon ;-)

FM, Just in case you don't read my Thank-You thread, please complete the transcript, there are many non-US readers of this group and it's the only way we'll ever be able to get the full story.

Thanks Again RonD

Thanks to all of you for responding so quickly.

Please keep posting if you want to see this, because it's gonna be a grind (especially because I can't readily find my IFB (that little ear-piece that tv reporters wear in their ears, and I'm gonna need it in the a.m. to continue transcription without waking my family), and I'll need your inspiration to keep going! (Understand that to correctly transcript it takes about 10 minutes to transcribe one minute.)

:)

FM, I know what a pain this is and will be. But, since you have it on videotape, is it possible to also put in parens some of the facial expressions, i.e., (raised eyebrow) (smile) or something like that? I seem to remember a couple of (nervous laugh)s, too.!

-- Old Git (anon@spamproblems.com), May 23, 1999.

FM, I would greatly appreciate it if you would transcribe the rest of it and post it. My wife was gone and I fouled up trying to record it (I recorded the wrong channel), and as a result, she didn't get to see it, and I wasn't paying as close attention to it as I should have since I thought I was going to watch it again with my wife.

Remarks as to facial expressions (mentioned in post above) would be a great idea.

FM, please keep going. I was out working in my garden and forgot all about it. I know I speak for a lot of us when I say that I really appreciate your effort on this one...wish there was some way we could help.

-- Mother Hen (gathering@herchicks.com), May 23, 1999.

Hey FM, unfortunately I missed the 60 Minutes broadcast tonight, and figured that I would "piece together" what was presented based on comments here on the forum. Imagine my joy to find your dedicated effort "in progress" as it were. Thanks for what you have done, thank you for what you will do!

-- King of Spain (madrid@aol.com), May 23, 1999.

Please continue. Don`t have cable TV. Maybe we`ll get some truths.Thank you for all your efforts. Grateful in Canada.

-- Eleanore Mameli (eleanore@island.net`), May 24, 1999.

Yes, please. I was unable to see it, but understand that it was a big wake-up call. I'll want to use it on some DGI's I know.

-- Steve Heller (stheller@koyote.com), May 24, 1999.

Great job FM, I hope I'll be able to do something to help you out someday.

Wish I could get my Dragon Naturally Speaking program to you. I am just getting used to using it in my spare time. Pretty neat talking into the screen/page though.

Respectfully

FM,

Please do continue if possible, I missed it too. I know it is a lot of work, but we will certainly appreciate your efforts!

FM,

Your effort would be very much appreciated by me, I missed the show. The forum would benefit from having the transcript for discussion. Thanks for offering your skills as a note taker!!

FM

Unfortunately she who ran the remote last night had ID-4 on, and I don't normally go looking for a disagreement. (She was entitled to whatever she wanted, as she was doing our taxes. We usually end up doing them in Aug so this is an early year LOL!) I would REALLY like to see a copy of a transcript.

FM: Please continue to enlighten those of us who missed the broadcast for various reasons. Also any newbies joining us may get an even deeper understanding by reading through instead of just watching and probably doing a number of other things (as many fo us do while watching the tube). Your labor is greatly appreciated, and let us know if we can do something to return the favor!

-- kitten (kitten@vcn.net), May 24, 1999.

Funny thing is, how the "60 Minutes" piece had a decidedly un-Doomer slant. Right up front, Kroft said as much.

Sen. Bennett was interviewed a couple of months back for the piece, and since has revised his stance more towards the 'lesser problem' area. Fact.

-- Chicken Little (panic@forthebirds.net), May 24, 1999.

Chick, Get the details right. It started right out of the box saying, last fall when we did our show, people thought y2k was a joke, a hoax. Time has passed and it's NO JOKE.

-- FLAME AWAY (BLehman202@aol.com), May 24, 1999.

FM

You are a great personage! PLEASE continue the transcripting. I'll get the coffee for you if you like! -)

-- J (jart5@bellsouth.net), May 24, 1999.

I saw the show, and would very much like to have the transcript to give copies to friends. You know, like, see, this is for real, guys, I'm not a wacko after all.

-- Shimrod (shimrod@lycosmail.com), May 24, 1999.

Ditto, FM,

THANK YOU!

There are some last 60-minute quotes that would fit nicely in a document I'm finishing up, for delivery.

Keep up the good work!

FM,

Please do keep up the grind. It will be appreciated!

-- Lee (lplapin@hotmail.com), May 24, 1999.

Thanks sooooooo much for your efforts. Hubby and I did see the show but I think it is important to all the DGI that we called yesterday across the land, to have a written copy of it. WE DGIs LISTEN differently than those who are hearing it for the first time. What we hear and what they hear are two different things as we have already analysed the material and are looking for crredible validation. Rest assured, everyone I know will get a copy as will all the neighbors. Again, many many thanks.

FM, I was sitting in an ER with my elderly mom who had been in a car wreck when I had planned to be watching 60 mins! We were still in the waiting room when the clock rolled to the anticipated hour, but, hey, moms still come first, maybe even more so when you're a GI. Mom will be OK, just terribly bruised and battered, but not broken. I can't tell you how much I'll appreciate the transcript! Thanks.

-- katy raymond (katy@ngenius.com), May 24, 1999.

I'm B-A-A-C-K! (With a cracked typing thumb covered by antibiotic and a hilarious first aid cot that looks like a you-know-what for a cat. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I WILL NOT elaborate!)

Anyway, head's up. I'm biting the bullet (thanks to your encouragement) and transcribing the entire 60 minutes report. Online soon. Why? Well, if one Grandma in a town that has a water system failure is helped because she read this transcript. . .

You get the picture.

In the meantime, keep cheering me on! (I'll hear you in my head as I wade through this thing. Promise!)

:)

Hey there, thanx FM. Late yesterday afternoon our patient died and we came home, scanned a couple alarming threads, and crashed. Will really appreciate reading the fruits of your kind labor. Still using your links to Milne & Hamasaki csy2k, BTW :^) THANKS!!

FM

What a *blessing* you are to all of us here. I found the 60 minutes segment on Y2K perfect for those who think Y2K won't be a problem for them individually. I also thought the woman they interviewed (ok, so i was feeding two toddlers during the show) was very clear, not alarmist in any way (not that I would mind, but she came off as very level headed and knowlegable). The trascript of the show will be emailed to every single one of my friends and family who are online and those who are not are going to get printed copies sent snail mail. Then, I'm sending a copy to the local newspapers urging them to print it in its entirety.

Thank you, thank you!

I have posted the URL on all the message boards that I frequent. I also plan on hanging it on the employee bulletin board at work as well as getting a few copies to my father in law for his crusade. Keep up the good work FM we all appreciate it enormously!

-- Nancy (innocent@csrlink.net), May 24, 1999.

It's FINALLY done!

. . .And it has its own, brand new thread.

http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=000rkQ

May thanks for the encouragement, everyone!

Old Git, sorry I couldn't go with body language descriptions. I was sorely tempted, but I wanted this to be an unbiased account. To elaborate, those of you who saw the piece probably noticed that Duncan (one of those whom Kroft interviewed) looked nervous. But the question is: was he nervous because of his fears about Y2k or because he was being interviewed by '60 Minutes?' I'm certainly not in a position to answer that question, so I thought it better to keep my thoughts to myself.

At any rate, thanks again. May there be many blessings on your households, and on a related note: we could use a few in ours. Seriously. So. . .if you have any clout with the folks upstairs, my family would appreciate your good thoughts and prayers.

:)

A rousing CHEER, and a BIG thank you, FM!
