Here's a quote from the Orange County Register that might settle our wondering minds about whether or not "Star Wars: Phantom Menace" will break Titanic's box office record:

"Movie analysts expect 'The Phantom Menace' to gross $120 million to $140 million by the end of its five day opening frame, setting more records, as it challenges the original 'Star Wars' to become the No. 2 movie of all time behind the $600 million-grossing 'Titanic'."

"The 'Star Wars' prequel reaped a record setting $28.5 million at the box office on its first day, shattering the single day mark by 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park' in 1997, figures showed Thursday."

So Star Wars may have topped Jurassic Park, but we still have to wait and see if it will become the No. 1 box office champion or settle behind Titanic. Fox distribution chief Tom Sherak has high hopes for its sucess:

"Wait until the kids start coming! Show me the kids! The kids are coming! When they start coming, who knows what will happen. We don't know. We're waiting. And we're smiling as we wait."

Well, I for one am very upset of hearing about all the hype about Star Wars. This is a Titanic site, not Star War site. Please let's keep this site devoted to its name, TitanicShack and talk about Titanic. There are many other sites to talk about Star Wars. Oh, I personally think Titanic will stay #1

Once again, two different animals. Star Wars is an anthology, or a series (the current one being the first installment of the sequel to the original). Titanic, an actual event in history, has had many films made about her but none related except for the historical event itself. Apples and oranges folks, plain and simple. Star Wars, should it do well (and I hope it does), can't be compared to a film about an actual event in history, despite the J&R storyline. In it's own right, SW should be in competition with the likes of "The Lost World", "ET" and such, not Titanic. It would be the same as comparing "Casablanca" to "The Day the Earth Stood Still"; fact-based vs. pure fantasy.
