Yeltsin Orders Study On Space Use In Yugoslavia

MOSCOW (Reuters) - President Boris Yeltsin told Russian experts Friday to conduct a study of how NATO has used space technology in its air campaign against Yugoslavia and whether similar weaponry might be developed in Russia.

``The competent Russian bodies have been authorized to conduct an analysis of space technology used in NATO's armed operations against Yugoslavia,'' Yeltsin said in a statement. ''Based on the results, proposals are to be made on elaborating a program to create and use corresponding means and weapons.''

``The president approved the proposal by the leaders of the space missile sector to extend the summer period of use of the orbiting Mir station with non-budget funding,'' a statement released by the Kremlin said.

It gave no more details.

Russia had initially planned to retire Mir, which has had a series of problems in recent years, in June. But the government decided it could stay in orbit until August and then space officials said it could stay longer if private funds were found.

The Energiya rocket cooperation, which owns Mir, said last month a Welsh-born businessman had agreed to help raise the $100 million needed to keep Mir flying for a year. But some officials have expressed doubts that the money will be found.

Rick, Is this the same Russia that has been upgrading its ICBMs, mobile ICBMs, its tanks, it surface ships, bombers, and fighters in the last 5 year like there was no tomorrow? And is this the same Russia that is the only country to have a deployed ABM system for the last 25 years or so around a place called Moscow and also has in inward looking LSPA radar system at Krasnoyosk that is capapable of ABM battle management?

Just wondering.

Russians have been known globally as stupid, to put it bluntly. That was one of the reasons for the revolution, to over throw the government and show the world they can be a super power. Communism came in and set up two classes of people, the haves and the have nots. The haves continued to spend money especially on military, during the cold war something like 90% of their GNP went to defense. However, most of their technology has been stolen from, you guessed it, us. Their spys were trained very well in obtaining our secrets. They used any and every tactic, including open sources of course. And to their credit, they really know how to reverse engineer.

In the meantime, the have nots continue to have not. The masses are extremely poor (when 90% goes to the military not much is left over). So your answer is right and it's wrong. You have to see the total picture.

And they are soooooo pooooooooor that they have to "borrow" funds from US to provide sustinance for their people after they have used up all the other "borrowed" funds to build their underground city and stock it with supplies so as to outlive US after . . . well, whatever they are planning . . .

INCOMING!!!!!! Heads up folks. Facts, the clintons are going on vacation next weekend. The Cox report will be released this week and the senate is screaming for blood. Clintons administration is about to be gutted. Boris Yeltsin is also going on vacation next week. He has just replaced Primakov and most of his cabinet, enough of them to form a second wartime government. Next weekend is Memorial day weekend. Three days. Plenty good cover for your local Trilateralist and CFR members to make themselves scarce from Washington and New York City. The Bildenbergers have just completed their little take over the world session and are conveniently out of pocket. I think there is an excellent chance we may see a major american city, or a bunch of them, go up in mushroom clouds next weekend. Or a major terrorist attack on the Indy 500. Keep your eyes peeled and be ready to run like hell.

I am continually amazed that the Germans rebuilt _from nothing, and from an economy absolutely dying_ a military state equal any in Europe, during a world-wide depression and while rebuilding their national economy too.

They did this during the worst of 1934-1938 economic troubles outside, and with no other countries help - though they did stop the Versailles debt payments.

And yet Russia had a strong military base, industry not destroyed, though decreipt, and from a military stronder than all but one.

Who is now 1/2 as strong as before the Russian rebuilding. Yes, they were weak, but never lost their pride and their determiniation to rebuild. many, though perhaps not a majority _yet_, see the Russian military as the single thing they must rebuild. I don't think a majority want the Communistic lifestyle back, but few would claim they are better off as a country and as a people with a "democracy" they blaim for the current economic troubles.
