Early SR arrow logo

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Southern Railway : One Thread

What is the earliest that anyone has seen the --SR-->> logo prior to 1915? When the Richmond & Danville ceased in 1894, its "logo" was Similar to <<--R&D--- with a LEFT travelling arrow. However, I have a number of advertising items prior to 1915, and the earliest I have seen the --SR-> version is 1899. Any help appreciated as to the earliest known date of the original SR logo.

Probably it was used almost from the start. I have see letterhead from December 1894 that has the logo.
