The banks here have issued a leaflet entitled as above available near cash tills in most major bank branches.

In it they are saying that they have been working together during 97 and 98 to test that their systems are ready for 2000, "your money will be as safe with them as it has always been" "your account balances awill be recorded as usual" "their electronic systems will not disrupt the banking services you need" the test rpogrames include payment of salary, cheques, plastic transactions, transfers between accounts, standing orders and DDs, money sent abroad etc.

They are saying that it qill be unecessary and unwise to withdraw cash but they will not be issuing special guarantees because your existing consumer rights apply Have the US banks issued anything similar, or in the OZ or NZ ones.

PS if it goes wrong "they have contingency plans"
