This is a .pdf file published by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Developement (OECD).

This is an international review of the potential impacts and actions taken by various countries. It includes actions recommended by the OECD. Dr. North listed this on his site today although the report was published in August, 1998.

It does contain much that I have not read before. I found the sources used cited in the reference section at the end interesting:

Morgan Stanley: "Y2K Watch: Digital Plague Oozes Across Planet" March 1997

JP Morgan: The Year 2000 Problem: Ready or Not, Here It Comes" July 1996

Any polly should print this and read it twice. I'll imagine they would be posting here asking for info on where to get beans?

Answers

With all respect, Bill, why would anyone be interested in May of 1999 in reading a report from August, 1998 or March, 1997, or July, 1996?

Status has DRASTICALLY changed during these timeframes.

My opinion only,

Anita

I would suggest it is worth a read because:

1. The Actions suggested have not been followed.

2. If the Establishment could admit to the problem then when this report had a small circulation, they should have to admit to more than a "bump in the road" now. The impacts identified are still valid.

3. It suggest to me that THEY have known all along that it won't be a "bump in the road".

Annex B, beginning on page 61, lists GOVERNMENT CONTACT POINTS AND WEB SITES for 30 industrialized nations. Mostly e-mail addresses. Could be useful to someone doing an intensive international survey.

Bill -- How did you know ahead of time that it was a pdf file? (it actually is, but the file has the filetype .ENG.

Bill you are correct, very good document. A lotta detail in a thick print-out.

Anita, sometimes there are older documents that are treasure mines of info. Have you read the IRS's Request for Commentary?

http://208.197.188.3/prime/primerfc.htm - from 1997, but lays the groundwork for understanding why IRS will likely be toast.

Go to Gary North's Taxation archives, read the docs & not his comments. If you still think that govt, remotely resembling the current one will be able to exist, after that read, well, what can I say?
