SOURCE OF WORD "CORD" USED IN TLR CAMERAS

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo: Creativity, Etc. : One Thread

Many old TLR cameras use the word "Cord" in their name. Rolleicord- Minolta Autocord- Others use the name Flex- Rolleiflex.

I can understand the term "Flex" but don't understand the term "Cord"

Does anyone help?

I'll hazard a guess that its short for 'Record', as in record a scene, implying pictorial notetaking, portability, rapidity/ease of use etc.etc.

The appellation 'Record' also shows up in the names of some older cameras from the 30s and 50s.
