..* * * THIS SATURDAY - May 22nd - Get together in North TEXAS, just north of Ft Worth, Noonish.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Its THIS WEEK. For any of you who may have forgotten. The first ever Texas real-life, face-to-face, get together conflab of those on this board. Mostly Texans, some Okies, and maybe a Cajun or two. We even got folks coming from FLORIDA. Now hows that for a BBQ.

The place is a little BBQ joint north of Ft. Worth called Sonny Bryans BBQ. It is located at 421 Westport Parkway at exit 66 on I35-W. The city is technically Ft. Worth. The actual location is adjacent to Alliance Airport on I 35 W north of Ft. Worth proper and south of Denton. Their phone number is 817.224.9191. If any of you need to receive emergency faxes their fax number is 817.837.1060.

Sonny Bryans opens at 10:30 am and closes at 9:00 pm. There is an adjoining room for those who prefer adult beverages or who are silly enough to still smoke those nasty cigarettes. They have the standard BBQ menu, some burgers, a few sandwiches, salads, and spuds. Their BBQ is good-to-high quality. I told the manager that everyone would just be ordering from the menu and paying individually.

Directions.

From Ft. Worth go north on I35W towards Denton. On I35W go north 21.2 mi from I20, or north 15.6 mi from I30, or north 9.2 mi from loop 820. If you are coming from Denton, head south, go 18.4 mi from the I35W / I35E split. If you are coming from Dallas, go up SH 114 to the Racetrack hang a left on I 35W and go south 4.2 mi. (all of this is what comes from someone having mapping software and being a tad too conscientious)

On I35W you want to take exit 66, you can see their sign from the Interstate. They are on the south side of the Airport and on the west side of I35W.

Remember Show-And-Tell. Bring anything you have that you think might be interesting to a bunch of folks trying to prepare for Y2K. One person is bringing sample of a TVP product she likes. Someone else is bringing samples of powdered milk and cheese. Books, tools, anything you thing may be interesting. One guy is even going to bring his SUE (Survival Under Extreems) kit and, if anyone is interested, demonstrate how to use some of the things in the kit.

Shopping: About 15 mi south of this spot (at the corner of I35W and loop 820) there is a great store. Its called Cheaper Than Dirt. I will be making a trip on down to CTD. Since they close at (I think) 3 pm on Saturday, Ill will be at the BBQ joint between 8:30 and 9:00 am Saturday Morning in case anyone wants a ride and will be back at the BBQ joint by 11:00 or so. If anyone is interested in riding down with me, I would welcome the company.

* * * Remeber we are collecting things and money to send back up to Oklahoma for the disaster relief. There is still great need there in the families who were completely devistated. I know food is always welcome. Money also. OldGit has already made a generous donation in cash to start the ball rolling. A special thanks to a grand lady. * * *

BTW, the moniker Greybear is actually a pretty apt physical description. Im about the size and general hairiness of your average bear and most of the hair is "grey", full beard, and glasses. Ill be in blue overalls and a gimme cap. If you dont see me anywhere else look in the smoking section. My van is bronze in color.

Thats about it. See yall there.

To Greybear and all who plan to have some BBQ this Sat.May22 @ Sonny Bryan's , we'll be glad to see you all! We're driving down from Oklahoma and had mentioned earlier on the first thread posted about this get together that we'd be happy to run some stuff back for tornado survivors. I talked with the Red Cross up here today and they are no longer accepting donations of goods (but they will take money) since they said they have more than enough stuff for everyone in the whole state! The Salvation Army will still take stuff I found out today. It seems that there is a plenty of supplies statewide due to the generosity nationwide. We are willing to take some things back to the Salvation Army warehouse if anyone cares to donate. We have a medium sized Ford Ranger pickup and can haul some stuff. I wanted to find out where to bring any donations since they had been saying lately on the local news that they had lots of goods and were not able to store anymore in the local warehouses. That's the latest info FYI.

See ya! Barb Waltrip

Bob,

I think someone is going to post notes from the meeting so all here can share in the conversations.

See all of y'all Saturday!!

Maybe if they got those goods out of warehouses and into the lives of the people who need them they'd have more room. :-)

Greybear can now be reached at greybear@zmatrix.com.

TOMORROW! IT'S TOMORROW! :-)
