Nikon 950 macro photos I've seen posted in various places look great. All I've seen were taken with autofocus on - can you focus manually in macro mode?

The reason for this question is that I am STILL looking for an affordable digital camera I can use with a microscope. Even though Nikon web page says you can't use the 950 with a microscope, I thought that if it's possible to manually focus in macro mode I could cobble together some sort of adapter to mount the camera, then focus using the microscope optics. Any comments?
