Is it one of those tracts that say faggots are responsible for Y2K and God will punish them through it? If it's not I'm not interested. Unless, of coarse, it involves millions of Catholics going to hell. BTW, does anybody know if those dipshit Catholics are preparing.

-- Larry South (LarryS@tyler.com), May 17, 1999.

This is MinnesotaSmith, author of the Y2K-preparatory website http://y2ksafeminnesota.hypermart.net. My wife and my mother-in-law are both Roman Catholic, and they are preparing. Don't judge all Catholics by their leadership. Imagine if all Americans were judged as being no better than our national government leaders. (!)

Larry,

I'm Catholic and I am a GI. Thank you for your... er... uh... unusually expressed concern.

Sincerely, Stan Faryna

Dear Larry "infidel" South,

yes many of us papists are preparing but that is not our chief concern. Y2K can only kill the body but not the soul. Personally I am gathering wood to light a bonfire with scum like you as the main roast. If I can't find enough wood then I will use Jack Chick tracts along with the others I normally put in the circular file.

Wow, this thread is really ... different.

-- King of Spain (madrid@aol.com), May 17, 1999.

Janice-

Chick has a web page where you can find out more about the Y2k tract. I don't know the address but you should be able to find it quickly with a search engine.

Joe O,

need any matches?

-- Lane Core Jr. (elcore@sgi.net), May 17, 1999.

Dear Minnesota Smith. Congrats on the shortest post I have ever seen you make. Keep up the good work.

-- smfdoc (smfdoc@aol.com), May 18, 1999.

I am a Roman Catholic, loyal to Pope John Paul II, and always love anti-Catholic sentiments: the world hates the Truth.

-- Spidey (in@jam.com), May 18, 1999.

This is really cool! An anti-Catholic bigot gets all us Catholics together on one thread. Where're Robert Cook and Anita Evangelista?

Lane, Stan, Spidey, Joe O., you might want to check out my article on Y2K from a Catholic perspective at www.envoymagazine.com. Click through to the articles; it's the issue with a can of worms on the cover.

Spidey, love your posts, man. Keep up the good work.

What's the difference between a Jack Chick tract and a used piece of toiletpaper covered in crap......

ANSWER: Most people are polite enough not to leave the piece of toiletpaper on bus seats, restaurant tables and park benches.

Understandable sentiment. -2 and a mouth wash with soap for language.

So now it's the catholics we are pouncing on...?

Well, I am proud to be a catholic...

All we can do is pray for Larry's salvation. And yeah.. more catholics then you will ever know are preparing.

Now where did I put my flute...?

Janice,

Do you sense the bitter hatred of Jack Chick on these flames? The web site is www.chick.com. Notice how they attack the message and never, never deal with the issues. Here's something for you statue worshipping, cookie munching, queen of heaven worshipping folks to chew on. [1 Tim 2:5] "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;" [Jer 7:18] "The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger." I Tim 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

[Col 2:8] "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."

You're problem is you reject the Holy Word of God. The question is critical. Are you going to stake your eternal soul on the Word of God or the traditions of church?

-- trafficjam (judgement@ahead.soon), May 18, 1999.

Dear Minnesota Smith,

I wish folks *would* judge us by our leadership. I think Pope John Paul is terrific!

Dear Traffic Jam,

One of the oldest of Church traditions is that the writings of St. Paul were divinely inspired.

If you reject the traditions of the Church, why do you accept that one?

(By the way, if you knew what you were talking about, you wouldn't say that Catholics "worship" Mary or statues, and you wouldn't call unleavened bread a cookie.)

-- GA Russell (garussell@russellga.com), May 18, 1999.

Dear catholic friends

I am a christian and I don't hated anyone, catholics or any faith. I know thousands of protestants and have not met one who hates catholics. Please don't judge our hearts. Tha's playing God. We have our our honest differences, but we do not have any bitterness. But I like for you to read Hebrews chapter 10:1-19 and note how many times ( Verses 10, 11,12, 14, 18, )it talks about "one sacrifice" or similar terms. Christ died once and for all and there is no more need to offer any sacrifices( hence no need for the human tradition called the mass). One of His last words on the cross is " It is finished" ,which means 'paid in full' in the Aramaic language. Why do you want to pay for your own sins when God said it's all paid for? If your friend treat you to a cruise, all paid for as a free gift ( Ephesians 2:8-9), why would you want to pay for the cruise, the food, etc. unless you doubt his word? In fact, it may be an insult to him because you fail to appreciate His grace and goodness. We believe God's grace is sufficient to save us and change our lives so that we will have a new desire to do good works and be different. (2 Cor. 5:17). YOu are sincere and I respect your devotion. Grace in the Bible is not to be mixed up with good works ( see Romans 11:6). Any honest inquirer who study prayerfully Galatians will see the error of depending on works + grace to get to Heaven. I know those verses you will cite and unfortunately you have taken them out of context. Over 23 years of studying Catholicism and other faiths have led me to my conclusion of Salvation by Grace through faith. (Rom.5:1,8; Rom. 3:28).

I'm at the bottom. Interesting notes guys, but remember we are not (at least not yet) getting killed for the faith as they are overseas, inconvenieced maybe, ridiculed yes, and decried yes, but not killed (yet.)

Anyway -" Larry South" is somebody's poor attempt to ridicule Gary North's fervent attitude; you can ignore him until something useful comes out. The rest? - well, my dad said he'd rather work with a strong Baptist whose willing to work rather than a wishy-washy Catholic anyday; so I'll leave it at that.

Those who don't prepare can't help their families or neighbors anyway. (Those who are not prepared to take reasonable precautions to defend themselves can't help their families either.)

So, in the race to be Martha's and Mary's, I'll set up the tables and chairs, mop the floor, and make sure everybody has something to eat & drink.

-- Robert A. Cook, PE (Kennesaw, GA) (cook.r@csaatl.com), May 18, 1999.

Dear Compassion K,

The explanation of the Mass is very simple: Jesus said, "Do this in memory of me", so we do. (Luke 22:19)

I note that St. Paul wrote of the Mass in his first letter to the Corinthians (10:16).

In regard to the salvation-by-faith scenario, I'll let the theologians of the centuries past debate that one. I'll just point out that St. James wrote, "What good is it if someone says he has faith but does not have works?...(F)aith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead." (James 2:14, 17)

-- GA Russell (garussell@russellga.com), May 18, 1999.

"For from the rising of the sun even to the going down, my name is great among the Gentiles, and in every place there is SACRIFICE, and there is offered to my name a clean oblation: for my name is great among the Gentiles" Malachi "Stand fast and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by WORD, or by our epistle" 2 Thessalonians "And as they were ministering to the Lord..." Acts 13 [ this term is found again only in Leviticus where it refers to priests offering sacrifice] "Faith without works is dead" James [no wonder Luther wanted to get rid of this book] I know I'm way off topic but feel free to e-mail me to have your questions answered Sincerely in the Immaculate Heart of Mary, vanquisher of all heresies, Joe "Torquemada was a softie" O

-- Joe O (ozarkjoe@yahoo.com), May 18, 1999.

G.A. Russel,/p>

About The Mass, when Jesus said 'This is my body...my blood..." He is not referring to literal changing into His Body and Blood. It is figurative. It's like when Jesus said,"I am the door". Does it mean He is made of wood? Of course not. Or when He said,"I am the Water of Life", does it mean He is H2O?! As to James, I can tell you for an hour how you misinterpreted this passage in chapter 2. James is a most practical book. He is pointing out the human perspective of Salvation whereas Paul talked about the divine perspective of salvation. God knows instantly whether a man who just trusted Christ is genuine in his faith, but finite man can't tell right away. So men wants to see evidence of salvation, which is good works. When James wrote that therefore faith without works is dead also, he is saying there is a dead faith (head knowledge only)andthere is a living or saving faith (heart repentence and belief). A faith that does not result in good works and a changed life is a dead faith. So we say that Faith is like the root, but works is like the fruit. It's faith alone that saves, but the faith that saves is not alone ( It results in good works. ). So if a man say," I'm going to believe in Christ but then I intend to continue to sin and live my life as usual" , then he has not truly repented (Luke13:3) and believed in his heart. Read 2 Cor. 5:17. Catholics believe in turning to a new leaf, but christians believe in receiving a new life ( John 1:12, 3:16,36). Dear friends, do you know for sure (100%) that if you die this minute, that you'll go to heaven? Why not, God said that you could and should ( see 1 epistle of John 5:11-13). I know hundreds and hundreds of born-again christians who has this sweet assurance , not because they are better than others, but because they have come to God through simple faith in Christ. (John 14:6). God simplify things, but man complicates things. I have witnessed to hundreds of catholic friends, and so far only one or two have ever told me that they know for sure . How sad that they do not have a child-like faith. Christ said something like Except you have a child-like faith, you shall not see the Kingdom of God. Well, I got to go on my business, I wish I have more time to reason with you. But I love you all. We can agree to disagree.

-- Compassion K (com@aaa.com), May 19, 1999.

"Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood, you have no life within you." Three times Jesus repeated this (Bread of Life discourse), and when many walked away, he turned to the apostles who were left, asking if they, too, would leave. Many find that a hard saying, but I'll take Our Lord's words at face value: Jesus is truly present, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, in the Eucharist. If, at judgement, Jesus asks me why I believed this, I will tell him that these were His words. Ie: ain't terribly worried about being a heretic. To all my Protestant brethren: May the Peace of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

There is a Catholic forum at:

http://greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a.tcl?topic=Catholic

If the non-Catholic and anti-Catholic posters here are truly interested in hearing our reasonable and biblical answers to the questions posed above (and if you are willing to answer some VERY tough questions of your own) then let's take this discussion over there.

-- David Palm (djpalm64@yahoo.com), May 19, 1999.

Compassion:

If Jesus's death caused forgiveness of all sin rather than "that sin MAY be forgiven", then why did He say to Peter:

"...those sins you declare bound on earth shall be bound in Heaven and those you declare loosed on earth shall be loosed in Heaven"....and...."..and I will give you the Keys of Heaven" ?

Hello All:

Someone told me that I was mentioned on this thread -- otherwise, I'd never be here, since I am making it a point not to open apparent troll/flame/inciteful postings.

I was raised Protestant, then discovered that I'd been lied to, and now Catholic....but, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO ARGUE RELIGION.

Take David Palm's excellent advice above and head to the appropriate forum; there are others on the web, as well.

This entire thread, like too many others, is simply a diversion -- a rather unpleasant one -- that seeks to "divide and conquer." One's religious persuasion has little to do with food storage, clean water, heating provisions, or computer problems.

Let's not allow ourselves to be led astray on this forum. Remember, even the Apostles were told to 'shake the dust of the towns that wouldn't listen from their feet', and to go on to the next one. This is still a useful policy. You can't convince everyone, and you can't save everyone. Sometimes, you have to leave people to the consequences of their actions (or inactions).

Take care of your selves, families, neighbors...use your good discernment to reply only to serious inquiries...and let the trolls and troublemakers rant in silence.

And, now I'm done with MY rant....
