OT: "Ishmael" meets Hollywood

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

There has been the occasional thread discussing Ishmael, and there's a link to it on the Yourdon home page. Thought some of y'all might be interested to see what Hollyweird did with it: Instinct trailer

Love Hopkins. Love Cuba G. Hope the movie has boffo grosses.

From what I've been told, there's no gorilla in the movie. How can there be a movie about Ishmael if there's no gorilla?

Probably couldn't find a telepathic gorilla that would go to Hollywood.

Near as I can figure from the trailer, they've substituted the Hopkins character for "Ishmael" (the gorilla) and the Gooding character serves as shrink/interrogator/"pupil". Much more "Hollywood", though. Echoes of Gorillas in the Mist, except this time the scientist has truly and completely "gone over to the other side" and become "one" with the apes. Much thrashing about, busting through walls, smashing of heads, etc.

For all we know, they've barely used any of Quinn's book. Happens all the time. To quote George S. Kaufman, who was watching the Marx Brothers make mincemeat of his script for Room Service: "Hang on, I think I actually heard one of my lines."
