I hesitated to post this, as it is yet another "second hand" piece of information.

My dad just purchased a new Dodge Ram pickup truck. He did this to pull a new (larger) boat he had bought last year... The Dodge information line had told him that pulling the new boat would destroy his transmission in about 1,000 miles or so (a pretty heavy boat ).

Well, he called the same man at Dodge (he knew him personally anyway) to ask him if he would have any Y2K problems with the new truck. No problems, he was assured.

However, the Dodge man continued (off the record, of course), our 1994 through 1997 models (pickup trucks, at least) go through the changeover fine, but when they are hooked up to a diagnostic computer after 01-01-00, one of the chips in the truck ceases to function and the truck cannot be restarted. They do not yet have a fix.

I do not and will not be able to get any more information or details than this. I've tried.
