Nikon 950 (in)-compatability with powerbooks

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Heard the Nikon CP950 is incompatible with Mac Powerbooks and will only be fixed with the next version (saw a remark in steve-digicam site). Anyone can verify this or disprove it? Is the CP900 suffering from the same incompatability?

Hello Guy, I have a 266Mhz G3 PowerBook and I have no problem with my 950 CoolPix. Maybe because I use a PCMCIA adapter for my compactflash cards, I have an 8 meg and a 48 meg and I can tranfer my photos with no problems.

Just saw this in Macintouch, this is the anwer to my question:

The serial software, NikonView 2.0, doesn't support a single-port serial system. The software expects seperate "fixed" Modem and Printer ports instead of actually checking the Gestalt of the system to see where the serial action is. iMacs using a USB-Serial so! lution may want to check to see if this works for them.

Nikon is working on a fix, but for now you have to use a PC card adaptor to read it on the Powerbook, or use the excellent Cameraid shareware package. It's 2-3 times faster than the Nikon in downloading but isn't able to get the Nikon image info file (the pc card has the same problem)

The guys at IPIX.com sell the 950 with a USB cable that works with either platforms.
