*EXECUTIVE OFFICE* From Glenda Brazzel

What a wonderful time of the year--spring in Arkansas! When spring arrives, it produces plush lawns, budding trees and blooming roses. Its filled with special events like moms being recognized, taken to lunch and then escorted through Quapaw Quarter downtown for a tour of lovely homes. High schools and colleges are preparing for graduation ceremonies. Many of us are beginning our frequent trips to the lake for boating and fishing-- Im sure your personal calendar is as full as mine.

The HPI calendar is also filled with exciting events. Here are some highlights for next week. Beginning with Monday, May 10th at 11:30 am in the community room, Dana Perrin of Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism will present a brown bag on "Vacation Opportunities in Arkansas." As a native, I can tell you Arkansas has an abundance of family vacation activities available. Next day, Tuesday, May 11th, Larry Averill of Rotary will introduce us to a five-member India team of Rotary Group Study Exchange participants. They will arrive around 1:15 pm, immediately following the Rotary weekly meeting.

Thursdays special guests are from New York. Mr. Zhinian Zhang (pronounced Dsang) and his wife, Meiping Ma are originally from China but have lived in the United States for many years. Mr. Zhang received his masters in journalism from the University of Missouri and is recently the UN Bureau Chief of Chinas Economic Daily, the largest business newspaper in China. He has offered to serve as HPI Chinas liaison with business leaders in cities throughout China as HPI China grows and moves toward acquiring more independence.

On Friday and Saturday, May 14th & 15th, Rotary NLR will be having their district conference at the NLR Hilton. HPI will be well represented--Jo Luck and others will be attending and Jim Hoey will be speaking on Friday.

And now, FINALLY, we come to next week-end! THANK YOU Perry Jones, for making all necessary arrangements for HPI staff to have a wonderful week-end enjoying the Arkansas outdoors. A group of us will be camping on Saturday, May 15th. Others will join this group on Sunday, May 16th, to float the Buffalo River by canoe. The Buffalo is located in north Arkansas near Mountain Home. If you have never floated on the Buffalo, or any other river, this will be a great time to learn and take pleasure from spending time with HPI friends and families.

Friday Notes and future possibilities

To encourage discussion and overall learning I thought I would be interesting thought to move Friday notes the web chat part of the Intranet. When Friday Notes is posted one can read and follow up with questions or later information. This can be a powerful option if used!
