Ted Turner: Nuclear War in Future

Saturday, May 8, 1999; 9:05 p.m. EDT

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- Ted Turner told University of Georgia graduates today to keep thinking and learning, then rained on their parade by suggesting that NATO bombing in Yugoslavia could lead to nuclear war.

``Here's the class of '99, and y'all are just starting out. Wouldn't it be terrible to have nuclear war in the next week or two and mess up y'alls careers before they have gotten started?'' Turner said in a commencement address to 5,000 graduates.

Turner, who founded CNN, said that as a child during the Cold War he worried that he wouldn't live to see the end of the millennium. At age 60, he said he has the same worries.

Referring to the NATO bombing of China's Embassy in Belgrade, Turner said: ``If we drop a bomb on the Russian Embassy, we could be at war with Russia and China tomorrow, and they both got lots of nuclear weapons. We might not even get to see the millennium.''

You may be interested to know that these bombs that hit the Chinese Embassy did hit the target that they were aimed at and that they just selected the wrong target. Talk about incompetence. Most wars are the result of incompentence and wrong decisions. Hitler thought England and the other countries would not fight, Japan thought that a defeat of the US Navy would keep the US out of the war until it could defeat the enemy etc. etc. We may live to regret the day that we elected and reelected this president.

The only thing scarier than having Tony Blair and Bill Clinton running a war would be to have Ted Turner dong it.

Carlos, one of the problems *is* that the Prez already donged it.

Considering how mad he has made his neighbors in the Madison Valley, nuclear war may be the least of his worries.

As long as you people continue to post threads of discontent, I will continue to marvel at how depraved and wicked this system is. Just because people have opinions, is no reason to hate them. If their opinions differ from yours, so what? Do you, any of you, have the truth? Can you tell me, or anyone else, the future? Are people whose thoughts that differ from you still of the same human race? I think so. Perhaps ethnic cleansing is not a reason for war. I hardly think killing is anything glamorous. But I do know this. No human on this earth has the answers. Not Clinton, The liberals, the anti's, nor the conservatives. The world will not go to ww3..at least not yet. the thing you all are missing is what you can't see, and refuse to see. It is the fact that this entire world is lying in the hands of forces that play all of you like puppets. Consider....Is Clinton really "plotting" against you? Are people out there wanting to "control" you? NO! They are only doing what you would do....making mistakes. And all of you smugly write back how bad and stupid they are...with no answers to boot! Quit criticizing and try to make this forum one of learning and upbuilding...bunch of whiners and scaredy cats..if you ask me.....
