New York City Bunker

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Recently I read about a supposed bunker or command center built in New York City. Does anyone have a link?

New York City will be doomed in 2000! No bunker will save you! Get out as soon as you can! Your very lives will depend on what you do to get out! You have only about 250 days left to save your life! Use those days wisely!

Smitty,

The advice is appreciated. However, I don't live in New York City, I am simply trying to confirm the report.

Thanks

There are a couple of threads on this subject in the Archives--under Gocernment, I think. If you go to that category and "find" bunker, I think you'll get what info you need. (Hint: "bunker" command centers have been around for quite some time, not directly connected to Y2K.)

Try this:

US Sets Up Bunkers to Beat Millennium Chaos (James Langton, The Telegraph< /em> [U.K.])

"Last week New York revealed that its new $12 million emergency command centre was: "Ninety per cent complete but fully operational." The 23rd- floor, 46,000 sq ft complex, near the World Trade Centre in Manhattan, can house up to 100 of the city's most senior employees and is protected behind a wall of bullet-proof glass. It was built above ground because of the risk of flooding from broken water mains.

Mayor Rudi Giuliani ordered the construction of the new control room only last year. While it is designed to deal with any emergency from a terrorist attack to a hurricane, the speed of its construction suggests that New York's planning for possible Y2K chaos is at an advanced stage. It was used for the first time during a snow storm in February."

"I need2@know.now" -- do you live in New York?

Oooops!

And, I just noticed that you DON'T live in New York. Good for you!

Bullet proof glass? Will it withstand a 747?

I wonder... did Rudy plan for extra food, water, and emergency power generation there, or did they just plan on sending out for take-out?
