Airlines..Again

This quote came via

y2knewswire.com

When the Y2K coordinator for Northwest Airlines says, "There is no question that every major application we have would have failed. Absolutely no question about it..." it's time to sit up and listen. Bomb detection and de-icing equipment is certain to fail unless fixed, and Virgin Airways has already grounded all flights on 1/1/2000.

Do we have confirmation of the NorthWets Airlines quote?

Thanks for any info.

Bob,

Here's a link to the original story, and the quote:

Northwest Spends Millions to Make Sure That the Dreaded Y2K Bug is Just a Blip

"There were just thousands and thousands of bugs that had to be weeded out," Dufek explained in his sun-filled conference room near the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport. "There is no question that every major application we have would have failed. Absolutely no question about it."

Just for the record, his original quote concerned their situation before they started work. Here's what he is saying today:

Today, Dufek is confident that all the major
components of the air travel network, from the
planes to the airports to the FAA to the air

"Northwest is planning to fly 100 percent" when the New Year rolls around, Dufek says. "That's our assumption -- that we'll be able to fly everything."

here's another quote from the same article:

Early crisis dates have come and gone, giving proof
that the repair effort is paying off. One such date
was Feb. 4, when major reservations systems
began accepting ticket orders for flights over the
New Year's weekend. The systems operated without a problem.

Sorry, the first paragraph got cut off. Here's that quote:

Today, Dufek is confident that all the major
components of the air travel network, from the
planes to the airports to the FAA to the airlines,
    will be ready.

The planes were stacked up today at O'Hare in Chicago. New software being installed malfunctioned.
