Grey Market or USA EOS-1N

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I recently purchased a Canon EOS-1N from Cameraworld of Oregon and the camera came with an international warranty. Since Cameraworld advertises that they sell no grey market goods I contacted them about this and a rep named Katie said that even though it says international warrantee it is in fact a full USA warranty eligible for rebates. Seems to me that if it is a USA warrantee it should say so. I have e-mailed Canon and am waiting for a reply. Anyone else have this kind of experience with Cameraworld?

My impression is that Canon USA honors international Canon warrantees (unlike Nikon which doesn't).

But Canon owners on this list will have the answer to a question that has been around before on various lists.

I had the same question, although I had bought the camera from a different store. I read the warranty card, with "International Warranty" inscribed on it, and thought I had been taken. But, thankfully, I contacted Canon and they said to look on the back, and there you will find it saying something to the effect of it being primarily a USA warranty, but also covering elsewhere as well.

Well, Canon rep Laura told me that the International Warranty is indeed a USA Warranty as well. She said that grey market cameras by Canon do not have any warranty card enclosed. Cameraworld of Oregon was indeed correct when they stated the warranty is USA. Hope this helps other buyers of Canon equipment when they get their goods with an "international warranty." Even so, some threads have stated Canon even honors repairs on grey market cameras and lenses - you just can't get the rebates offered.

From experience I can tell you that Ralph is quite correct. Canon is great at accepting grey/USA. Too bad Nikon, as far as I know does not do same. Buy grey and save, although some cheaper Canon lenses , I,ve been led to understand, are Taiwanese.
