OT: Why it will be illegal to raise your own children

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The clamors for 'parental responsibility' are leading in one direction. Eventually it will be illegal to have/raise your own children.

The government will take over this function.

Let's take a zoological analogy: are you allowed, by your current local government, to own/raise a South American Condor ? A snow leopard ? A white tiger ? A black rhino ? No, right ? OK, why is that ? These species are "protected". They are exotic, rare, difficult to keep in captivity. A great deal of "expert knowledge" is required for this: nutritional science, veterinary science, developmental expertise, habitat construction, and a host of other expert-level knowledge requirements.

Academic research on children and human developmental science has progressed for decades. Do you know it all ? No ? OK, if animals need expert care, how much more human CHILDREN ? Are they not an even more delicate and crucial 'resource' ? Therefore, the government will eventually take over this role.

Even though calls for parental liability seem to be going against this claim, they will actually accelerate the trend.

...and this has what to do with Y2K?

Y2KPro, The title clearly states OT, that means Off Topic for people that don't want to read it. Get a life!!!

Blue,

China's already set that standard.

Communists and Socialists have as one of their primary pillars: indoctrinate the children.

The liberals and Socialists in this country have followed this doctrine to the letter for the last 30 years.

But we won't last as a nation long enough for the inevitability of what you suggested. We will be a smoking hole in the earth, with our farms and resources crawling with foreign nationals.

Soon.

Let's take a zoological analogy: are you allowed, by your current local government, to own/raise a Doomer? A GI? A survivalist? A conspiracy theorist? No, right? OK, why is that? These species are "protected". They are hostile, intransigent, difficult to keep in captivity. A great deal of "expert knowledge" is required for this: nutritional science(food storage), military science (weapons training), developmental expertise (instilling paranoia), habitat construction (hardened bunkers), and a host of other expert-level knowledge requirements.

zoobie...what will ever happen if you stop quoting other people and learn to think for yourself?

-- unbelievable (get@life.com), April 30, 1999.

I don't think that will happen until genetic engineering gets to the point of making "old-fashioned sex" a comparitively poor way to make humans. This is many generations off. At that point, test-tubes will probably produce higher-quality "specimens". I leave the moral and religious implications to the flame-throwers.

For now, even the meanest, nastiest government has yet to do that. Yes China has a 1-kid quota, but that is another issue. I do see population control becoming a big issue, unless we have a Y2K or WW3 breakdown.

I personally think the role of the Feds is decreasing and will continue to decrease in the future. The US is traveling the same path as the USSR did, but we might be a generation or more behind.

If you are concerned about this, as I actually am, then there are good precautions possible that most people don't think about. I'm speaking from my own experience here:

1. Marry someone with similar if not identical values and goals. Agree together to take whatever path; either common or ultimately bizarre (from the common viewpoint).

2. Have homebirth with a midwife and through prior agreement ask to be solely responsible for the filing of the birth certificate papers. (And then don't file anything.)

3. Do not get SS#'s for your children. (If there is no Birth Certificate this is mute -- or impossible.)

4. Teach your children responsibility and creative work ethic. They will only stay in this free status as long as they are Entrepreneurial and hard-working.

5. Pray very hard that Jehovah our God protects them and shields them from powerhungry, statist agents that will inevitably make life hard for yourself and your children.

6. Live a life full of worth and value, preferably in a rural area. Do not put your faith in the works of your hands. God rules over all: live in terms of this. Seek the kingdom of God wherever you are.
